Faryn and Eric first met at a New Year’s Eve dinner party. They were both smitten right away and talked every day after leading up to their first date.

How did you meet?

Eric and I met at a New Year’s Eve dinner party. I was introduced to Eric by his best friend Pear, my daughter, and his daughter’s godmother. So naturally, I smiled when I saw Eric come in the door. But then, I saw this handsome chocolate man with a fur coat, fresh haircut, and pretty white teeth. I was blushing madly but had to keep entertaining everyone.

We didn’t speak much, but we came together and toasted with some champagne glasses during the toast for the new year, even though Eric doesn’t drink. The following day, he reached out to his best friend Pear while we were all out for lunch, saying hi to me with emojis. I had Pear ask him for his number so we could stay connected. He reached out to me the next day, and we started talking and texting every day until we made plans for our first date.

Tell us your proposal story

Eric and I planned a picnic for my 35th birthday. We wanted to do something different this year, more intimate and private. So we scheduled a photographer and rented a picnic venue. To my astonishment, the picnic turned into a surprise proposal!

When did you know they were the one?

Faryn: I knew he was the one when I was able to love again. Eric made me feel secure and loved. I was able to be happy again. He brought me life, encouragement, support, a strong father figure, and acceptance of my children. He loved me for who I am and brought me peace. Eric made me want to become a wife! He is my best friend and soulmate, and I’m glad he came into my life.

Eric: I knew Faryn was the one when I first met her. I saw she was a good mother, a good woman, supportive, and even my mom liked her! She made sure I ate well and kept a smile on my face. I fell in love with her from the day I met her, and she didn’t even know it.

Describe your engagement session

We told the picnic company to make the decorations neutral with an accent color of yellow. Our official engagement session will happen later on in the year.

What did you do on your first date?

We went to the Chart House in Philadelphia. I was so nervous and shy, but he was a complete gentleman. Didn’t make the first move, made me laugh and smile the whole time, and of course, paid for everything. Once dinner was over, he spoke to me the entire way home to make sure I got back safely.

What’s your favorite thing to do as a couple?

We love to travel and explore different cultures of food.

How has wedding planning been so far?

Wedding planning was on hold when Eric’s mother ended up in the hospital. She has since passed away.

Tell us what you are looking forward to most on your wedding day?

I am personally looking forward to being a wife and enjoying time with family and friends.
