The couple first met through social media in 2010 and when they finally had their first date in 2015 they quickly became inseparable.

How they met

Ini and Tolu met the modern way: by sliding in the DMs in 2010. Their first date was not until 2015 in Denver, Colorado where Ini flew to finally meet Tolu. Since then, Ini and Tolu have been inseparable despite being in a long-distance relationship for three years.

What makes your relationship special?

To know Ini is to know Tolu and to know Tolu is to know Ini. This is what makes our relationship special. Our ability to look at each other and know exactly what one is thinking highlights the unique connection that we have. Some of our favorite things to do include traveling, trying new food, talking about our future, and napping.

How did you know your partner was the one?

Ini: I know Tolu was going to be my girlfriend the first day I saw her on Facebook in 2010 and I told everyone around me this. I knew I would marry her the first day I met her in person in 2015. I felt deep down in my spirit that this was the girl I wanted to spend the rest of my life with. Her kindness and generosity coupled with her drive and love for God sealed the deal. There was just always something special that stood out about Tolu. From her smile to her beautiful voice. The way she carries herself and the way she interacts with people is always amicable. She is also someone that will be a great mother to our future children.

Tolu: I knew Ini was the one due to the many sacrifices that he has made throughout our relationship. He has put our relationship first and his selflessness is something I admire.

Tell us all about the proposal

Ini and Tolu never discussed the details of a proposal or a wedding. Throughout their relationship, they discussed marriage. It wasn’t until May 2020 when Ini asked Tolu’s friends about what she wanted in a ring and a proposal. Tolu did not know. This was the end of the conversation.

In September 2020, Tolu and Ini went to visit Tolu’s sister and her husband in New Hemisphere. They were moving to a new place and Tolu and Ini were there to help. One of the nights they were there, we had a dinner scheduled. Ini and Tolu’s brother-in-law stated they needed to finish up moving and that they would meet us at the dinner place. Tolu and her sister got ready. They pulled up to a park and Tolu was completely confused about what was happening. Ini knows that Tolu does not like attention, so it was a beautiful evening, with a violist, a videographer, Tolu’s sister and her husband, and Tolu’s uncle and his family. The rest is history. Ini worked with Tolu’s sister, and her husband to plan everything.
