Describe your business.
Kimaya McPherson is a fashion brand that embraces the journey of a woman. We embrace and celebrate the special moments of her life by creating couture bridal and evening dresses that bring forth her wildest imagines.
What did you do before starting your business in the wedding industry?
I have always been in the fashion industry. I drifted in and out of sales/ customer service industries as well, prior to becoming a full-time fashion designer in the wedding industry.
How long have you been in the wedding industry?
In 2013 while I attended college, I worked in a local bridal and dress shop. There I was introduced to brides from all walks of life and fell in love with dresses. It brought me pure bliss to study the art of couture wedding gowns, how they were made, how many layers are in an actual wedding dress, beading, and fit. In 2017 I began working on my company, creating wedding dresses for private clients. I knew this was the direction I wanted to go with my design career and have been here ever since.
How would you describe your style?
I would describe my style as feminine, regal, and bold!
What motivates you?
My drive to succeed in my fashion career stems from me wanting to create a brand that will forever celebrate women! Making it in the fashion industry has always been a childhood dream of mine. I also want to demonstrate to my children that they can live their dreams and accomplish anything their heart desires to do.
Why should brides/grooms choose you?
When a woman is on her journey to uniting with her partner, the most important part of her day is always the dress! What will she wear? What does she want her dress to look like? Does she want to feel like a princess or powerful? She thinks about details of her gown, the train, to veil or not to veil. This is the moment that most women can bring forth their most royal self. The gown is not just any dress, it’s the royale ensemble, that brings out her best self, her personality, compliments her body, and makes her feel most gorgeous on her special day. Brides should choose me because I understand this! In every piece I create, I create it with my bride in mind serving with passion and love for what I do in every detail of her gown. My goal is to make sure that she feels like the queen she is, Beautiful, alluring, and sexy.
How does your company define and measure success?
One day I hope to become a household name in the fashion industry. I want this brand to be globally recognized and of course, have the finances to support any new opportunities my company would have. I hope to be able to have growth in all areas of my business and branch out to areas in the beauty and creative industries as well. I measure success by all the steps I take to get there.
What do you enjoy most about your work?
I really enjoy getting lost in the art of designing and creating. I feel free to be when I am at work. It’s a place where my mind is clear and I can allow my creativity to lead.
Describe a proud moment while working in the wedding industry.
I have proud moments every day. I’m proud of myself for holding on to my dreams and believing that they’re worth fighting for. I’ve come a long way and the journey to taking this path wasn’t a walk in the park; so every step forward that I take to become closer to my goals, I am proud today to say that I am a bridal gown designer.
What’s the best compliment you’ve received for your work?
The best compliment I have ever received about my work is that my hands are blessed and that my work is that of the sound of an angel playing the harp coming from the heavens. I will forever cherish this compliment because in every piece I create you see a little bit of my soul. I’m extremely passionate about my work and I’m happy that my clients recognize this.
What are your business goals?
My business goals are different for different timeframes. Since I am a brand that is newly recognized, my goals for the next year would be to have continuous growth and visibility. I plan on building my team, building strong relationships with new clients, and making a strong mark in the bridal and fashion industry.
What’s your favorite part of the wedding industry?
My absolute favorite part of the wedding industry is the couples I get to work with. Without them, there is no wedding industry. It’s an absolute pleasure to get to be a part of the sentiment and love they experience. Through this, I can be a part of one of the most spectacular moments of their lives.
Where do you find the most inspiration?
I grew up on the Caribbean Island of Tobago, so nature and Island influences always seem to always captivate me. I am also highly influenced by different architectural styles.
