If life gives you grey skies, then turn them into glam black and white wedding photos, taken by the most amazing photographer of course!
That’s exactly what Melanie and Chancer’s creative wedding photographer Emely Williams did when she embraced the overcast skies to create a chic, vintage vibe for the romantic couple on their wedding day. The ceremony which was held at one of Atlanta’s finest wedding venues incorporated classic style and decor elements. The couple’s wedding party all attired in timeless black and white outfits complimented the modern lines of the ceremony and reception decor which gave the day a fresh of the moment feel.

Tell us how you met and all about the proposal.
How we met: We were both attending the tailgate for the Spelman-Morehouse Homecoming in 2016. We had mutual friends who stopped to chat with each other, and so we introduced ourselves briefly. We didn’t exchange numbers when we first met “leaving room for fate”. We happened to bump into each other later on that evening and exchanged numbers. The next day, I invited Chancer to a haunted house so I wouldn’t be the third wheel…and we’ve spoken every day since.
Proposal: Chancer needed a model for a product shoot for one of his businesses, and so I was happy to support. He said he wanted to capture the sunset in the images and so the shoot would take place on the rooftop of Ponce City Market (which is where we went for the first date that Chancer planned). Upon arriving, I was instructed to lookout at the skyline while the photographer took test shots and he would let me know when to turn around for the actual photos. The photographer announced, “We’re ready!” and when I turned around, my friends and family were holding red roses and Chancer was kneeling with the ring!
How did you know they were “the one”?
I knew Chancer was “the one” based on his approach to life, love and relationships. He is wise beyond his years and is always sharing knowledge about how to be a better friend, a better communicator and an overall better person. He never allows me to settle for less than my best and I admire the way he is patient and humble in almost any situation. He supports and encourages me through challenging times and cheers for me during my victories. He is the truly the perfect balance between love and friendship.
Did you incorporate any culture into your wedding?
Atlanta is our meeting place and so we incorporated Atlanta culture by getting married in a rooftop venue with the city skyline as the backdrop. The drink tickets were peaches to symbolize the iconic “Georgia Peach” and during the reception we served chicken and waffles.
Wedding Style
Describe your wedding style:
Classic, Timeless and Modern
Describe your wedding dress and your favorite wedding accessory.
I would describe my wedding dress as a blend of classic and modern beauty. I love flowers and loved how the floral detailing on the neckline trickled through the corset and cascaded down to the flared train. There were also sparkly elements on the sheer midsection as well as under the train. My favorite wedding accessory was my headpiece–it really set the tone for the moment.
Here Comes The Bride
To Have And To Hold
Advice For Brides
Don’t give the dress shop your real wedding date! I had a custom dress made and it wasn’t ready until 48 hours before the wedding–talk about stress! My advice would be to tell them that your wedding is 2-4 weeks (minimum) before your actual date in case of manufacturing and shipping delays
Making Memories
What is your best memory from your wedding?
My best memory from the wedding was walking down the aisle with my dad. It was an experience that I had always dreamed of since I was a child, and even in the moment, it felt like a dream. The music and the energy in the room made the moment even more surreal.
What is the best wedding advice you can give to engaged couples?
The best wedding advice I can give to engaged couples is not to sweat the small stuff. I remember several times when I was frustrated from details and ideas that weren’t how I planned and at the end of it all, I had to remember that I am marrying the love of my life and everything will work out according to God’s plan. Just go with the flow and enjoy the wedding planning experience–the good and the bad–because it will all make for a great story one day!
