The pair’s beautiful golden hour fall engagement session in Mueller Park photographed by Esther Makau Photography was a romantic ode to second chances at love.
Like many folks who attempt online dating, our first date did not go well
Thankfully even though Ashley and Adam’s first date after meeting online didn’t quite work out as planned, they eventually fell back into each other’s lives. Because of the couple’s self-professed ambition, perseverance, and mutual curiosity they re-connected and afterward were inseparable.

What did you do on your first date?
Our love story began as many love stories do nowadays, with a direct message on an online dating app. Like many folks who attempt online dating, our first date did not go well. The evening itself was okay, but it didn’t end with any plans on meeting up for a second time. It also ended with one person driving home without giving the other a ride (good job, Adam). It appeared that our story would end on its first chapter. However, through ambition, perseverance, and mutual curiosity, our flame was rekindled years later.
Our second chance at a first date came about three years after the first time we met. This time we had dinner in a Southern-themed restaurant. But, they didn’t have any biscuits. And the service was less than ideal. However, we had a lot of laughs and a good conversation. The night ended with promises to see each other again.
Then that second date…which led to a third date…and a fourth, and…well, you get the idea.
Eventually we decided that with all the time we spent, we may as well move in together. And so we did, right before Covid-19 turned the world upside down.
When we moved in together in December 2019, we thought our apartment would provide a welcome respite from our busy lives working in Boston. But, Covid-19 meant a lot of added unexpected time together. Thanks to being cooped up and wondering when it would be safe to go outside, our love story intensified in every way imaginable. We fought and made up…a lot.
We got a cat, which Ashley adored and Adam hated at first, but would ultimately provide both of us some much needed sanity during those first months in quarantine. We learned how to work together in our home office, often with one of us being kicked out whenever the other one had a Zoom call. We watched a whole bunch of shows on Netflix. Most of all, we eventually realized a couple of very important things about each other. First, we realized that we wanted to spend the rest of our lives together. Second, we realized that we wanted to move down to Austin.
And so, our story is now in Austin, where we’ll be able to share our love for each other in the company of our closest friends and family. We’re so excited to celebrate this beautiful day in this amazing hillside venue. And we’re so excited to see what the next chapters in our love story entail.
