How they met…
Anthony and I met at a church we were both attending a little over 5 years ago. I was in the choir and he was a musician there. One day after service I waved bye to him, just being nice, and he used that as an opportunity to slide in my dm’s lol. We went on our first date shortly after that and we’ve literally been together every single day since. We hit it off pretty hard.
The proposal…
Anthony proposed to me on June 17, 2020. Now I must admit that we have always talked about getting married & I have shared more than a few suggestions as to how he should do it!
It was a random day, a Wednesday to be exact. The day before, he asked me if I wanted to go to this really popular park in a town called Shelby Farms. I said, “okay” thinking that it was just going to be a typical date night. He told me what time to be ready, I got cute, and he picked me up around 6:00 pm.
We stopped and got takeout as he disclosed he was surprising me with a picnic. We got to the park and tried to scout a place to set up. He led us to the perfect spot under a tree by the lake. While we were getting set up and just talking, a woman walked up & asked if she could take our picture for a local catalog. Now, people use this park to take pictures all the time so I didn’t think anything of it. I agreed because I was looking cute.
An impromptu photoshoot…
She snapped a few pictures and then asked us to walk down the pier so we could be positioned over the lake. Then she instructed us to look at each other & smile. Anthony turned to me, gazed into my eyes, and started to recite his proposal speech. At that moment I knew what was going on and the tears began to fall.
The next thing I knew he was down on one knee and I was staring at the most beautiful ring I had ever seen! The whole time the woman and her colleague were capturing our special moment with pictures and videos. We embraced each other for a while just soaking in the moment. Then I turned around and to my surprise, in the distance there stood all of our family and friends watching us from afar. I balled my eyes out. They came down to congratulate and celebrate us and we had a mini photoshoot as the sun went down. It was perfect.
How did you know they were “the one”?
I knew Anthony was the one when I started to become more self-aware & recognize my flaws & actually wanted to take steps to be a better person for him. I had never had anyone care for me as deeply as he does, so his loving me made me want to reciprocate it to him. Because he deserved it for putting up with me lol.
Did you incorporate any culture into your wedding?
No, we didn’t incorporate any specific culture into the wedding. We’re kind of traditional so we wanted to keep it that way.
Describe your wedding style
The theme of our wedding was a Heavenly Garden. We wanted it to look bright, serene, & romantic so that was the best way to describe the vision we were going for.
Describe your wedding dress and favorite accessory
My wedding dress was mermaid style, heavily laced with flowers & bedding. A perfect mixture of classy & sexy. My favorite wedding accessory was the “something borrowed’ gift my mother-in-law gave me a couple of hours before the ceremony. They were the pearls that she wore to the prom with my husband’s dad in 1986. They are still married.
What is your best memory from your wedding?
The best memory from my wedding would have to be the first look. I’ve never felt more beautiful in my husband’s eyes & the way he looked at me showed it.
What is the best wedding advice you can give to engaged couples?
The best advice we could give to engaged couples is to continue to work on yourself while in the engagement phase. Because the real work starts on day one of marriage.
