Featured in MunaLuchi Bride Magazine, Issue 28, this earthy adventure elopement in the Snoqualmie National Forest will inspire you to set out off the beaten path to create your own exciting nuptials!
Set in the Snoqualmie National Forest, Hotzel Photography captures Ian and Kelsey’s real-life romance in this earthy adventure elopement-styled shoot in Washington State. Highlights of the photo session include a vintage camper van, an intimate lakeside ceremony, and a hike to a secluded waterfall.
I think this elopement really shows couples what their day could look like. They can include fun details that reflect their personality, like a non-traditional dress or a vintage camper van. They can center their day around the place they’re in, and visit multiple locations in the area.”

Inspiration…
The inspiration behind this elopement was the PNW itself. I wanted to capture the beauty of the landscape, while making it look like the couple was part of it. The dress chosen, the colors, the styling, and design were all thoughtfully and intentionally planned to showcase the best parts of Washington state. With the “elopement” happening right at the start of fall, it was a beautiful blend of greenery and changing colors.
The morning started out foggy in typical Pacific North West fashion. The couple got ready together in their vintage camper van and did a quick first look afterward.
They exchanged their vows right next to a beautiful lake, as the mist and fog continued to roll in behind them.
How they met…
Ian and Kelsey have been together for 7 years and met in their sophomore year of college. They started out as acquaintances having small conversations whenever they saw each other on campus. Kelsey was on the Pom Squad, and Ian was in ROTC. One football game when the ROTC members were sitting on the sideline, Kelsey’s Pom squad shared the same sideline.
The band started playing the schools signature song. Kelsey began performing her routine with the team. She couldn’t help but notice Ian staring at her, and only her. Kelsey gave Ian a smile and a wink. Ian’s small smile turned into a huge, toothy one. Some time went by, and one day, they ended up sitting together in the cafe and really hit it off. They have been together ever since that day.
The bling…
After exchanging vows, they wanted to explore more of the forest and hiked to a secluded waterfall. They literally had it all to themselves!
The proposal…
On graduation day, Ian proposed to Kelsey on the football field sideline wear the magical “wink” happened. Of course, Kelsey said YES! She graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Criminal Justice, and currently works in the City Prosecutors office as a Paralegal. Ian graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. He currently serves as a Captain in the U.S Army’s Engineers Core.
Their greatest adventure so far…
When I asked them what the greatest adventure they’ve been on so far was, they said it was climbing Dunns River waterfall in Jamaica, so I’m really glad we got to include a waterfall for this elopement.
The couple ended their day with a few cuddles back at the van and then drove off to live happily ever after.
