An elegant and chic wedding at the Baltimore Museum of Art captures the essence of true love with touching personal vows and sophisticated attire.
Finding the love of your life should feel as natural as breathing, as exciting as opening a surprise gift, and as calm as waves lapping against the shore. Déjà and Mathew’s love is all of those things.
After meeting at a showroom in Manhattan in 2013, the pair quickly became friends. They bonded over shared loves and annoyances and most importantly, they laughed. They laughed a lot!
Déjà shares, “Many laughs later… things became serious after a very abrupt text message asking if there was ‘something going on’ between us’. Since that moment we’ve been more than a couple.”
We’re each other’s party planning committee, the actual party, the after-party, and sometimes we’re the “we can’t make it to the party.”
– Déjà (The Bride)
Their joy-filled love story leads us to their next step in life together: marriage!
The couple said I Do in an intimate chic wedding at the Baltimore Museum of Art. Their nuptials were inspired by a modern Australian wedding aesthetic with a few DIY details by the bride and groom, including black stem vases made with all luxury silk florals.
While the couple opted out of a wedding party, they chose to have an adorable “bubble girl” and a sign bearer announce their entrance. Other fun highlights of the day included a specialty sangria cocktail and a 90s/2000s-themed dance party!
Their first look and exchanging personal vows in the museum’s sculpture garden are one of our favorite moments from their wedding day. Déjà shares, “It was very emotional and helped shake some nerves before getting in front of everyone!”

How they met…
We met in late 2013 at our respective jobs at a showroom in Manhattan. We quickly became friends over shared loves and annoyances.
Many laughs later and things became serious after a very abrupt text message asking if there was ‘something going on’ between us’. Since that moment we’ve been more than a couple. We’re each other’s party planning committee, the actual party, the after-party, and sometimes we’re the “we can’t make it to the party.”
Wedding style & attire…
Deja wanted a minimal yet sophisticated gown. She came across Newhite online and found a Brooklyn boutique, The One Bridal, that was able to customize the perfect dress.
Matthew looked everywhere for a double-breasted vest suit which is hard to come by in summer, but the Gentlemen’s closet saved the day. His mom, a saint, changed out the buttons the night before the wedding.
Favorite wedding day memory…
We did personal vows before the ceremony in the museum sculpture garden and it was very emotional and helped shake some nerves before getting in front of everyone!
The proposal…
Sharing a love for mid-century modern, Matt proposed to Deja in Palms Springs in front of the historic Villa Sierra – ‘That Pink Door,’ the day before her 30th birthday. After the proposal, he had an engagement/birthday photoshoot planned at the Stardust Oasis Guesthouse followed by a romantic dinner.
The ceremony…
Mr. & Mrs…
Cultural elements…
We’re more spiritual, so we had the officiant do a sage cleansing as part of our ceremony.
Advice for other engaged couples…
Stick with your gut and don’t let outside influences pressure you into making uncomfortable decisions. This is your day!
