Featured in MunaLuchi Bridal Magazine Issue 29, T’Kiyah and Christopher’s waterfront wedding at the Half Moone Celebration Center in Norfolk, Virginia, was a dreamy affair.
Set in a stunning black and white themed floor-to-ceiling glass windows ceremony space, T’Kiyah’s entrance was preceded by charismatic flower men who set the energy high for the couple’s I Do’s. At the altar, the pair exchanged vows that brought tears and laughter.
A lively sunset reception followed with pops of yellows and luscious floral details. Highlights of the evening included an aerialist, a live band, Greek Hymns and Strolls by their respective Sorority (Women of Delta Sigma Theta) and Fraternity (Men of Kappa Alpha Psi), and an unforgettable New Orleans-style first-line parade through downtown Norfolk.
Their over-the-top wedding with endless entertainment makes sense for this creative pair who first met through the events industry. At the time, T’Kiyah (a Wedding Planner and Owner of TKO Total Events), was living in Florida while planning her mom’s 50th birthday celebration. Searching on Facebook for ‘best DJs in Florida,’ all the reviews mentioned Chris “DJ Cee Kay.”
T’Kiya shares, “It started off as business and here we are 6 years later – NEWLYWEDS!”

How they met…
T’Kiyah was living in Florida while planning her mom’s 50th birthday party. She asked on Facebook who was the best DJ and everyone said Chris “DJ Cee Kay.” It started off as business and well, here we are 6 years later NEWLYWEDS!
The proposal…
While T’Kiyah thought she was planning her 30th birthday celebration she was actually planning her own surprise engagement! 30 guests gathered in a beautifully designed space consisting of jewel-toned floral and balloon arrangements as well as a floating cake. Fast forward to a few select guests saying a toast, the last person to speak was her now husband, Chris. He began by telling his version of how they met and ended by asking for T’Kiyah’s hand in marriage.
Wedding style, attire, and shopping experience…
Chris’s 1st look was a custom emerald green Kashmere tux with red bottom loafers. The inside of Chris’s tux was lined with a variety of pictures of the couple’s viral engagement shoot.
His reception look was a casual all-white suit with a pair of black and white speed Balenciagas. “Working with Kashmere Watson was great!” Chris says. He met, hired, and designed his custom tux all within one sitting. “When you know you know!”
T’Kiyah’s 1st look was a custom pearl-toned deep plunge ball gown and a clear open-toe heel designed by Lena Berisha. In addition, she complicated the look with an embellished bridal updo, matching earrings, and a classic bridal mani and pedi. Her goal was to have a clean look while making a statement.
For the second look, she went festive and sexy with an iridescent fringe high split dress with iridescent earrings to match. Although T’Kiyah did not traditionally go dress shopping, she still included both of her mom’s in the process! Because she’s a wedding planner she already had her eye on Lena Berisha well before getting engaged. So this was one decision that came rather easily.
Here comes the bride!
A dreamy waterfront wedding ceremony…
Cultural elements…
Although the wedding and reception were rather traditional, the couple ended the night with a New Orleans-styled first line, which led guests from the venue back to the hotel! “It was a hit, and we’d do it all over again!”
Their first dance…
Favorite wedding day memories…
Surprising guests with an aerialist and live band during cocktail hour and ending the night with a sparkler exit turned Nola-style first line filled with sparklers, bubbles, umbrellas, light wands, confetti, and so much more chaos! We stopped traffic and gave downtown Norfolk a little jaw-dropping show!
