Candice and Cameron tied the knot at their unique and vibrant Sailor Moon-inspired wedding celebration in Houston, Texas!
Candice and Cameron first met through Cameron’s roommate, who invited them out for Candice’s birthday. The future couple snuck away from the crowd to get pizza, which became their unofficial first date.
After moving to California together so Candince could complete her master’s program, the couple moved to Houston, Texas, where Cameron proposed. Cameron took time to bond with Candice’s family in their hometown of Houston, while still traveling to Virginia to see his family.
Their Sailor Moon inspired wedding featured a vibrant color palette, representing the different characters from the classic anime, crescent moon details, and a variety of lush florals. The bold color scheme made for a unique and fun look, while also beautifully complimenting the stunning bride and groom and their wedding party.

How they met
Joseph, who goes by Cameron, and Candice met when his roommate invited them to Whitlow’s on Wilson for her birthday. The two of them sneaked off to grab a jumbo slice of pizza at Goody’s, which you could call their first date.
Candice had visited Cameron’s townhouse multiple times over a year to hang out with friends, but he never happened to be there. While Candice sometimes wishes they had met earlier, she now agrees with Cameron that the day they met was perfect timing.
Each bridesmaids bouquets were a different color to signify each character from the animation. The brides bouquet colors had to consist of pink, yellow and white flowers to represent the color of the princess/bride from the animation.

The colors selected in the arch where hand selected by the event designer/planner and assembled on site by the florist to ensure that the colors would not over-power the bridal party, but compliment the bride and groom. Every detail of the wedding tied back to the moon crest.

Tell us about the engagement
We dated for four years while we lived in northern Virginia, where Cameron was born and raised. Cameron had never lived in another state, which meant I could enjoy regular family get-togethers with his family while living far from mine. He did not hesitate to move with me to California for my master’s program during the pandemic.
Due to the remote nature of my coursework back then, he arranged for us to live in my hometown of Houston, Texas, where he proposed, so that I could be closer to my family. Even when I returned to California, he split his time between Texas and California and bonded with his future in-laws. We concluded our engagement the same quarter I graduated and look forward to returning to the DMV region for my Ph.D.
Any advice or tips for engaged couples?
With a great wedding planner, the most time-consuming job we had was getting the guest addresses compiled. It’s better to finalize the list earlier and order additional unaddressed invitations so you can update guests later. Also, many of our guests had never been to Houston before, so our wedding planner arranged a rehearsal dinner cocktail hour for people who arrived from out of town early and a post-wedding brunch for Sunday.
The honeymoon
We spent two weeks in Japan. The cherry blossoms had fallen in Tokyo when we arrived, so we visited a smaller northern city, Yamagata, where we could walk through cherry blossom trees with no tourists. We stayed one night at a traditional Japanese inn at Ginzan Onsen nearby and when we woke up, it was snowing outside. We also toured Kyoto, Nara, Osaka, and Kobe for the first time, which were, as expected, amazing. At the end of our trip, we visited my aunt in Okinawa, where it was warm enough to do water sports at the beach.
