Wanting to honor the bride’s culture, while also embracing a modern wedding, Kari and Terrance infused elements of a traditional Hindu wedding into their contemporary celebration!
Kari and Terrance’s friendship grew quickly when they first met online. Despite having completely opposite personalities, they were drawn together and understood each other well. Kari shares, “We played a significant role in each other lives by introducing each other to many new experiences and activities .”
Expecting Terrance to possibly propose on her 25th birthday, Kari began to have doubts when he presented her with the YSL bag she had wanted for a while. She was certain that the bag was too big of a gift to be coupled with an engagement ring.
With the element of surprise on his side, Terrance planned to propose during Kari’s birthday dinner at her favorite restaurant. When the birthday cake came out, Kari had to do a double take; instead of “Happy Birthday!” it read, “Will you marry me?”. She turned around to find him down on one knee as her loved ones erupted in cheers.
He had managed to keep it a secret, making the surprise truly remarkable. It was an unforgettable blend of romance, spontaneity, and pure happiness.

How did you meet?
Terrance and I first met online, and our friendship quickly blossomed. Despite our contrasting personalities, we had an innate understanding of one another. We played a significant role in each other lives by introducing each other to many new experiences and activities that we had never done before, and I was grateful for the chance to explore them with him by my side.
Terrance embraced my candid nature and outspoken opinions, affectionately nicknaming me “my headache”. This became an inside joke and an affectionate reference to our deep connection. To commemorate this special bond, it found its way onto my engagement ring, forever etching it into our shared story and evoking laughter among those who know us well.
Tell us about the proposal.
On my 25th birthday, Terrance went above and beyond to throw me a celebration at Pergola, our favorite restaurant and hookah bar in NYC. It was an intimate gathering with our closest family and friends, totaling around 20 people.
During the planning process, I couldn’t help but speculate that Terrance might propose to me as a birthday gift. However, my expectations took a turn when he surprised me that very morning with a YSL purse, an item I had always wanted. I texted my friends in a playful jest, “Ugh, I got a good gift—I don’t think I’m getting engaged.”
As the night progressed and the celebration was in full swing, the waitress brought out my favorite birthday cake. At first, I casually glanced over it, assuming it read “Happy Birthday,” as expected. But then, upon a closer look, my eyes widened as I read, “Will you marry me?” on the cake!
At that same moment, I turned around, and there stood Terrance, down on one knee, with love and excitement. He had planned the entire surprise flawlessly, creating a memory that would forever be etched in our hearts. The room erupted in cheers and applause. He had managed to keep it a secret, making the surprise truly remarkable. It was an unforgettable blend of romance, spontaneity, and pure happiness.

Our wedding was anything but traditional. I still wanted to incorporate some elements of my Hindu culture while still embracing a modern wedding.
What is your best memory from your wedding?
Without a doubt, my vows hold a special place in my heart as my favorite memory. As I stood before Terrance, expressing my love, commitment, and promises for our future together, there was an overwhelming sense of emotional connection and vulnerability. It was a deeply personal and profound moment, filled with love and sincerity.
One of my fondest memories from my wedding day was witnessing everyone in my family and my bridal party look absolutely stunning. Each member had put so much effort into their appearance, and it was incredible to see them shine alongside me on such a special day.
The reception itself was an absolute blast and stands as another cherished memory. The dance floor was filled with our loved ones who came together to celebrate our union.
