This shoot is where Nubian meets earthy, meets editorial, meets wild.
– Avonné Stalling of Avonné Photography
Featuring earthy shades of brown and beige, this outdoor-styled wedding places Blackness centerstage and celebrates the beauty of Black skin.
“Our skin in every shade are earth tones,” Avonné Stalling of Avonné Photography explains. “When envisioning this shoot, I wanted to change the narrative of what we are seen as. I wanted our skin to be the main color in these images and show how beautiful we are as a people.”
Calling the shoot “A Tale of an Earthy Love of Two Souls,” Stalling initially found inspiration from the gorgeous venue, The Province Cotton Mill. With exposed brick and warm earth tones at every turn, she wanted to create something inherently “earthy” but also artistically elegant.
“I wanted it to feel as though we were walking through a field with lush grass meadows,” She explains. “The linen gown, headdress, the clay Pots, and the natural wood chairs… every part of this shoot was intentional with texture, even down to their jewelry and their dreads.”
With a love for photographing floral meadows at weddings, Stalling incorporated delicate white florals and greenery into the tablescape design for the reception and natural elements into the ceremony’s backdrop. Every detail down to the stationery and tablecloth was carefully thought out to reflect the theme.
“I wanted the whole shoot to showcase the beauty of the earthy tones of our skin with the beauty of the venue as well as the nature/earthy feel of the design,” Stalling shared.
