Arianna and Philip said “I do” in a classic black and white wedding in Atlanta, Georgia, at The Georgian Terrace with soft pink florals, gold decor, and tributes to their Greek culture.
Philip (class of 2012 Ophio14) and Arianna (class of 2012 Ophio14) first met in the fall of 2018 at the University of Hampton laundry room.
“Between laundry cycles, we exchanged awkward glances but never spoke,” Arianna recalls. “Eventually, we discovered that we were in all the same classes due to being in the 5-year MBA program. What began as a study partnership soon revealed something special between us, and we began dating throughout our time at Hampton.”
Four years later, they were ready to take their relationship to the next level. Phillip planned a surprise proposal during their vacation to Cartagena, Colombia, on July 13, 2022, and Arianna happily accepted!
The couple exchanged vows one year later, celebrating their love with friends and family in Atlanta. Highlights included tributes to their fraternity and sorority affiliations with Arianna’s sorority sisters serenading her with a sweetheart song and performing a stroll and Phillip and his fraternity brothers singing the Alpha hymn to Arianna. The day was everything they dreamed of and more.

The bride-to-be…
Tell us about the proposal:
Phillip proposed in Cartagena, Colombia, during our vacation on July 13, 2022. What I thought was just a simple dinner on our second night there turned into a memorable surprise when all the servers appeared with sparklers and a bottle of champagne. As I turned around, I saw Phillip on one knee, asking for my hand in marriage. I was completely taken aback! The proposal was followed by a photo shoot around the charming old town of Cartagena, and we spent the rest of our vacation celebrating.

Describe your attire and wedding style.
I bought my fairytale wedding dress at Bridals by Lori, as seen on TLC’s “Say Yes to the Dress,” and Phillip had a bespoke suit made at Unique Threads. I envisioned wearing a princess-style dress for the ceremony and changing into a mermaid-style gown for the reception. Then I found a detachable princess-cut skirt that looked stunning! Phillip also had a wardrobe change, swapping his tuxedo jacket for a white one while keeping the black tuxedo pants.

Did you incorporate any culture into your wedding?
We incorporated our cultural backgrounds into the wedding by highlighting our fraternity and sorority affiliations during the reception. As a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., my sorority sisters serenaded me with the sweetheart song and performed a stroll. Phillip, a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., joined his fraternity brothers in singing the Alpha hymn while Arianna sat in the center of the circle.
What is your best wedding day memory?
My best memory from the wedding was the overwhelming love from my family and friends, the stunning decor, and the joy of marrying the love of my life.
What is the best wedding advice you can give to engaged couples?
Make decisions based on you and your groom only, be conscious of budgeting, live in the moment, and have fun.
