Muna Coterie wedding and event planner, Latasha Fields of L Prestigious Events LLC, shares her journey into the wedding industry in this exclusive Behind the Brand feature (written by Latasha Fields).
What started as a passion project quickly became a calling, solidified when I was hired to plan a milestone birthday celebration at The City College of New York.
From the joy of designing family gatherings to the thrill of orchestrating large-scale celebrations, I have always been drawn to creating moments that bring people together and leave lasting impressions.
In 2016, I turned my passion into a business helping clients create unforgettable experiences that reflect their unique personalities, balancing a dual career as a school administrator and certified wedding and event planner.
My experience includes over a decade of logistics and management expertise to ensure every detail is seamlessly executed.
I pride myself on the ability to translate organizational skills from a career in education into the events industry. I continue bringing my creativity, professionalism, and love of celebrations to life, crafting events that meet and exceed clients’ expectations.
From 2021 to 2023, I served as a contributing editor for Exposure and Keynote Magazines, where I shared expert wedding and event planning advice and conducted insightful interviews with industry professionals.
In 2023, I had the incredible opportunity to work at The Model Experience at New York Fashion Week (NYFW), further expanding my experience in high-profile event coordination. Additionally, I proudly served as a member of the Event Committee Member for The National Society of Black Wedding & Event Professionals (NSBWEP) from 2023-2024.
What does being a part of Munaluchi’s Coterie mean to you?
Being part of Munaluchi’s Coterie means joining a vibrant community that respects and uplifts the pursuit of excellence. Munaluchi has long been on my list of aspirational networks—a space where like-minded professionals share knowledge, support, and inspiration. As a new member, I hope to deepen my expertise, build meaningful connections within this remarkable community, and gain invaluable exposure for my business.
What advice would you give to aspiring wedding planners?
My advice for aspiring wedding planners is to be patient with the process. The first few years may feel like an extended learning curve, and that’s completely normal. Use this time to figure things out and establish your foundation. If you’re committed to making a career in the industry, go all in. Get certified in your niche, secure insurance for your business, and formalize your operations by creating an LLC.
Offering your services for free or finding an internship can be invaluable—it’s an opportunity to learn the ins and outs of the business and gain much-needed experience. Remember, there’s no substitute for hard work. Success in this industry demands effort, resilience, and a relentless commitment to excellence. Finally, be prepared to work harder for yourself than you ever have for any employer. The rewards are worth it, but they come with dedication and perseverance.
What are your future goals?
One future goal is to continue elevating the business and consistently bringing my A-game to each event. Secondly, I desire to attract my ideal clients—couples and individuals who understand that having a planner is an investment that will bring peace of mind and help them sleep better at night. My mission is to educate clients about the distinct role of a planner vs the on-site venue planner. While venue planners are good, they are available to support the venue’s interest.
