Walking down the halls of John Bartram High School there was one person on Hawa’s mind, Vincent. Their story mirrors that of a 90s romantic teen comedy. She was the shy girl in love with the star soccer player, who every girl wanted. During her junior year, they took English together and she used this opportunity to build a friendship, which would one day turn into love. The groom chose Thanksgiving, a day that for many represents family and love to propose. As Hawa appreciated the sight of both their families together as one, he took that moment to ask her to be his number one fan forever. To highlight their engagement this couple wanted someone who could perfectly illustrate their idea of glamorous old Hollywood. They decided to use a classmate of hers at Ubara Photo, who was able to capture the couple’s passion. They pictures show what evolved from a teenage crush turned into everlasting love, without losing their playful nature. We look forward to seeing pictures from their upcoming August nuptials. Best of luck!
Bride to be: Hawa Bengeh- Licensed Practical Nurse Groom to be: Vincent Jallah- Hospital Coordinator Wedding Date: 08/31/2014How They Met
It all started at John Bartram High School. Vincent was the school soccer star that all the girls pined over; he always managed to steal the spotlight. As for me, I was shy and much more reserved, but once I saw him, I knew I had to have him. Vincent and I shared a class together junior year, and being the jock of the school he received many privileges, such as teachers pretending he was not absent from class. One of these days that he was absent, I took it upon myself to pick up an extra homework sheet as I left class. This was going to be my chance to talk to the most popular boy in school. Soon this had become my routine, making sure he received his homework, but Vincent seemed oblivious to my admiration; however, we started to build a friendship. All I needed was time but time passed and the school year slowly drifted away as spring approached. My mother told me that we would be moving, which meant that I would have to transfer schools. On my last day at Bartram High, Vincent and I exchanged numbers so that we would keep in touch and we did. Feelings blossomed between us and from then on, we were practically inseparable.
The proposal. We want to hear all about it!
His proposal was sweet and thoughtful because the people that meant most to us were there as witnesses. It was during Thanksgiving and honestly, I was enjoying watching the two families together. I was seated to the right of Vincent and we all went around the table expressing what we were thankful for. It was Vincent’s turn to say what he was thankful for he stood up and began giving thanks to each person sitting at the table. He started to his left walking around the table slowly, saying something special about each person and giving thanks to them. As he approached me, he laid his hands gently on my shoulder and I felt them tremble. He began…
“There is nothing more special than having this great woman by my side and I am most thankful for her.”
He got on his knees and I could feel my temperature rise as blood rushed to my cheeks. He continued telling me how thankful he was that I was in his life and finished with those famous words…”Will you, Hawa Bengeh, make me the happiest guy in the world by marrying me?” After a quick pause from shock, I said “Yes!” We hugged long and then he gave me a kiss and ended…
“Yes there is nothing more special than having this great woman by my side than having her by my side as my wife.”
We all celebrated. It was wonderful!
The engagement session
My engagement theme was Old Hollywood Glam. My photographer was remarkable. She brought my imagination and dreams to picture. She really helped me and Vincent accomplish the look we wanted.
Your Photographer
I went to school with my photographer, TG Anderson/ Ubara Photo. After graduation, I saw a lot of her work from some classmates and her work impressed me. I knew she was the only person I trusted to capture a moment so special. I loved how she really brought her clients ideas to life and she was very professional.
Looking forward to…
I’m looking forward to becoming Mrs. Vincent Jallah. To think those daydreams I had in class of being his wife are coming to a reality is surreal, I feel like the luckiest girl in the world. I cannot wait to share this moment with all of my loved ones.
Wedding planning is tough…
One word to describe the planning…stressful! I am a neat freak and I want everything to be perfect, so planning a wedding has not been a walk in the park at all. I am so grateful for all the assistance I have received from friends and family, but I still stress and over-think everything. I am so appreciative of my wedding designer, Lynn from LilyVevents because she helps relieve the stress. It’s a process! Making those big decisions is hard work. It can become time consuming and overwhelming at times considering that I have to work and take care of our kids, but it’s the tiny details that makes it even more challenging; like which silverware set to use for the table setting and what entrees to choose. However, those same tiny details make everything special. Yes, it’s a process, but I can’t wait to make my ideas transform into reality and watch everything unfold. As a couple, Vincent has been extremely helpful and supportive. He pretty much lets me have my way and I love it!
