When you think about the songs that make up the soundtrack of your life, you will definitely reminisce about your wedding songs. The music you pick for your processional, recessional, first dance, etc. should be a true reflection of who you are as a couple. Classic love songs, such as Luther Vandross’ “Here and Now,” and Michael Jackson’s “Lady In My Life,” will always be wedding favorites. However, if you are looking for some contemporary songs, we have put together some of our favorite new slow jams for our 2014 newlyweds. If you have a favorite current song that you think is wedding worthy let us know in the comments below. In the meantime, get your boo, pour a glass of wine and enjoy the songs below!
1) Janelle Monae and Miguel: Primetime
We all know Janelle Monae for her funky grooves, but her new album, Electric Lady, also highlights how beautifully her voice wraps around a ballad. In this song, “Primetime” Janelle and Miguel croon about a love that is unyielding and heaven sent.
Standout lyrics: When you’re down, and it’s hard/And you feel like you’ve given your all/ Baby my love is always right here for you
Cause baby it’s a prime time for our love/Ain’t nobody peekin’ but the stars above/ It’s a prime time for our love/ And heaven is bettin’ on us

2) Anthony Hamilton and Marsha Ambrosius: As
Anthony Hamilton and Marsha Ambrosius’ remake of Stevie Wonder’s “As” from The Best Man Holiday Soundtrack, is a piece a heaven. It is nearly impossible to improve on anything Stevie Wonder has done, but Anthony and Marsha do an excellent job slowing the tempo of the song and adding angelic strings, while staying relatively true to the original captivating melody. The words remain as profound and timeless as when Stevie first sung the lyrics in 1976.
Standout Lyrics (the whole song, but here are a few): Did you know that true love asks for nothing/Her acceptance is the way we pay /Did you know that life has given love a guarantee/ To last through forever and another day/Just as time knew to move on since the beginning /And the seasons know exactly when to change /Just as kindness knows no shame/Know through all your joy and pain /That I’ll be loving you always

3) Avant and KeKe Wyatt: You & I
Avant and KeKe Wyatt have made a musical comeback with the soulful love song “You & I” off of Avant’s newest album Face the Music. This song has a true old school groove that makes you want to pull your loved one close and slow dance the night away.
Standout Lyrics: Funny how things have changed in my life now/ Whether near or far I wanna be where you are/And you’re like a rose that blooms in my garden/ Innocent and sweet, my love you are

4) John Legend: All of Me
John Legend can be trusted to deliver at least one perfect wedding song on each of his albums. His most recent album Love In The Future does not disappoint. His hit song, “All of Me” was written in honor of his new wife Chrissy Teigen, and he even sang it to her during their wedding. Read more about their fabulous Italian wedding here.
Standout lyrics: ‘Cause all of me/ Loves all of you/ Love your curves and all your edges/ All your perfect imperfections/ Give your all to me/ I’ll give my all to you/ You’re my end and my beginning/Even when I lose I’m winning/ ‘Cause I give you all, all of me/ And you give me all, all of you

5) Stacy Barthe– To Be Loved By You
Stacy Barthe is not a new artist, but sadly not enough people know her. After having written for the likes of Rihanna and Kelly Rowland, Stacy finally has released her own music. Off of her newest album P.S. I Still Love You the track “To Be Loved By You,” is a true gem. Stacy sings every lyric in this song with a smooth and soul stirring sensitivity that will definitely remind you of the love you have for your partner.
Standout lyrics: You make me remember, who I am/It’s easy to forget in a world where no one seems to be sure anymore/ I find certainty, when I look into your eyes

My favorite song from this list is Chrisette Michelle’s. Her voice is so timeless. She has a couple of other songs that could be wedding songs too.
Another good song that I would add to the list by Janelle Monae is “What an Experience” a non-single from the “Electric Lady” album. The lyrics are sweet and it has a reggae vibe to it that makes you want to move your hips.
