We are sending our congratulations to Shemia and Quincy. The Washington’s had a beautiful “Welcome to Atlanta” themed wedding. They consistently executed their theme from their Save the dates to their wedding decor. The bride shares, “The Save the dates had a picture of us looking at the Atlanta skyline. The invitations had the skyline etched in the backdrop of the wording. The welcome bags had the skyline on them and a greeting from us that said Welcome to Atlanta…. and [our] tables [were] named after the historic streets in Atlanta.” Guests were enchanted by her unique color scheme which included various shades of green, yellow, chocolate and cream. When the night was over, guests left with a sweet Georgia treat- an authentic jar of peach preserves. Marcus Ryan Photography captured all the unique details.

Description of Event
When Quincy first moved to Atlanta from Louisiana, he would often get homesick. One way that he would ease his longing for home would be to drive downtown and look at the Atlanta skyline. He said that in looking at that skyline he had hopes of a better brighter future. All of our family is from out of town so getting married in Atlanta was a destination wedding of sorts. Quincy proposed at his 40th birthday party which I hosted a the Marriott Marquis the room boasts an awesome view of the skyline. Our theme came natural. It had to be “Welcome to Atlanta” and feature the skyline and everything fabulous about Georgia. Here is the link to the wedding pictures.
Our wedding was a fresh clean mid-summer nights dream. I chose my favorite colors fresh greens in varying shades, yellow, chocolate and cream. The Save the dates had a picture of us looking at the Atlanta skyline. The invitations had the skyline etched in the backdrop of the wording. The welcome bags had the skyline on them and a greeting from us that said Welcome to Atlanta. Inside the welcome bags were an old fashioned bottle of coke, Georgia peanuts, Georgia peach jelly beans and a wedding medicine kit. The ballroom was decorated in the fresh colors by Perfect Petals Design Group, LLC and featured tables named after the historic streets in Atlanta. The wedding cake done by Cakes by LaMeeka featured Magnolia flowers and dogwood branches and the grooms cake was a poker table. Guests took home an authentic jar of peach preserves or amaretto peach pecan preserves from Lane Packing Company in Fort Valley Georgia which is the brides hometown.
Wedding Style
For my wedding day I chose to be Atlanta Glam. Bold makeup with eyes that popped and a black tie dress. Shopping for my wedding gown was easy. I went to three shops without my Mom to narrow down my favs. Once I had the favs down, I brought in my Mom who picked the one. My dress came from Carries Bridal Boutique in Chamblee and it was designed by Carrie. It was a strapless fit and flare gown with rouching from bust to hip. At The hip area the rouching stopped and then flowers cascaded down from my hip down into the train of the dress. I chose a beaded belt and had it stiched onto a piece of fabric that matched the gown for extra pop. The belt was also from Carrie’s Bridal. I wore a pair of shoes that were dyed and then stranded in Olivine Crystals by Alicia at 5th Wick. This was my dream come true so I had to have my “dorothy” shoes on. I wore long spiral curls for the wedding with a crystal ribbon headband from Etsy.com. I also wore long cascading earrings and a wide crystal bracelet to finish my look.
Incorporation of Culture
Quincy and I both wanted to incorporate the Jumping of the broom ceremony into our wedding. This signified to us sweeping away of the old and brushing in the new as well as paying homage to a time when African Americans used the jumping of the broom to signify legal marriage. We both have roots in Louisiana so we had crab fritters with a spicy romoulade sauce at the cocktail hour and we had the DJ play classic Zydeco music. The music is infectious and it brought all of our guests to the dance floor.
Most Memorable Moment
Hearing the Pastor say we are man and wife.
Loving You Is So Easy
From the Groom…Quincy loves my zeal and determination.
From the Bride…I love his kindhearted and nurturing spirit.
