Vintage DIY Wedding in Maryland: Divinity + Meekael

DIY weddings can be the most sentimental and thought out affairs. Today’s wedding feature is a DIY celebration planned and designed by the bride herself.  Leading up to her wedding, Divinity spent most of her days thrifting, crafting and collecting vintage china and furniture.  She also made the flower girl’s tutu and many the decor items.  DIY to the core.  For her wedding to Meekael, Japanese culture was incorporated in a subtle way with paper cranes and vintage Asian pieces.  Paula Bartosiewicz was there to capture all the beauty.  Take a look at how gorgeous this wedding turned out and you can see more in the gallery.

Love usually starts with a moment of intrigue.  Maybe it’s the way someone laughs or the sparkle in their eyes, but something about the other person entices you. When Meekael and Divinity met at a gathering their freshman year of college, they left wanting to know more about each other.  From that moment on they were inseparable, and they spent the next nine years of their lives falling deep in love and learning the world together.  They graduated from college, traveled to awesome places, and had a beautiful little girl.

Their love had taken them to many different places spatially and spiritually, so it was truly fitting when Meekael proposed during a road trip to visit family and friends in Florida.  Divinity recalls, “Everything was perfect! We reminisced the 14 hours in the car about all of the memories we shared and hoped to recreate with one another. I had been hoping for a ring for a while but never expected it to come on this trip.” When they arrived at their destination in Miami, Meekael decided to take Divinity out for a late night walk on the beach.  The soothing lull of the ocean and the balmy weather provided the perfect atmosphere for a romantic proposal.  Meekael was so nervous, he grabbed Divinity’s right hand instead of her left; still, his proclamation of love was perfect.

The couple wanted every aspect of their wedding to be a representation of their personalities.  It was paramount that they have a fun wedding that displayed Meekael’s fascination with Japanese culture and Divinity’s love of everything vintage. So Divinity jumped right into creating DIY wedding projects that would make their “Vintage Asian Garden Wedding” become a reality.  She shares, “This was my favorite part of the wedding planning process. I spent most of my days thrifting and crafting. I collected all of the vintage china plates, crystal glasses, vintage cloth napkins, and all of the furniture pieces (some of which I painted). Also, I made the flower girl’s tutu, M & D sign, paper crane guest book, drink stirs and bride and grooms chair and signs.”

While Divinity worked hard to make her dream wedding a success, she made sure to hire a “Day of Coordinator,” to ensure she could truly relax and enjoy the day.  Every aspect of their wedding was sheer perfection: the weather was gorgeous, their daughter was the cutest flower girl, and friends and family traveled from near and far to celebrate the new journey of love Divinity and Meekael were about to embark on!
