Tamiyah and Phillip have been each other’s superheroes ever since they laid eyes on each other in high school! Their love only grew stronger throughout their collegiate years, and now this fun loving couple is looking forward to getting married this May. Their engagement session was a true reflection of their passions and style. Tamiyah shares, “We decided to do an engagement session in two locations. Due to our love of superhero movies, we did the first half of our session in a comic book store to show off our fun and casual side. The second half took place outside in the streets of New York, NY where we changed into more formal attire and used graffiti walls as our background.”
Their spring nuptials will also incorporate their love for superhero movies in a unique way. The couple is having a traditional ceremony at Branch Brook Park in NJ. Afterwards, guests will travel to the cocktail hour, which is being held at a dine in movie theater. Tamiyah shares, “We rented out an entire movie theater solely for our guests, where we plan to serve appetizers and candy while watching Avengers 2.” Tamiyah is our fabulous and fearless Marketing Coordinator at MunaLuchi Bride! Make sure to send her your congratulations.

We met at Green Acres Park the summer before our senior years of high school. It was in 2007, and I was working as a camp counselor when a mutual friend introduced us.
Our summer romance lasted long after senior prom, and beyond our seven year courtship to our wedding day this May. We are big movie-buffs. However, every once in a while I force Phil to watch a chick-flick (that he always ends up loving).
So one night I made him watch Sex and the City with me, and in the middle of the movie, out of nowhere, he stands up to leave. I always get frustrated when he isn’t as fully engaged in the movie as I, so I grabbed him to motion him back to the couch and he pulled away – now having my full annoyed attention – and reached for the lamp on the side table beside me.
Ready to argue, I tried to speak but was distracted by the velvet ring box on the table. Looking back at Phil, he slowly bent down to reveal his great grandmother’s ring and asked me to marry him. All I can remember was saying yes, hugging him tight, and watching Charlotte poo her pants on the TV screen behind him. It was perfect.
The Engagement Shoot
We are huge superhero movie fans. So for our wedding, after holding a traditional ceremony at Branch Brook Park – our guests will be traveling to a dine-in movie theater for cocktail hour.We rented out an entire movie theater solely for our guests, where we plan to serve appetizers and candy while watching Avengers 2. Our reception will be held afterwards at a local restaurant to cap off the night.
So of course for our engagement shoot we had to geek-it-out! A comic book store was ideal for our theme, and we dressed ourselves up for New York.
Their First Date
Phil’s late mother, Michelle, showed him how to have a “five dollar date” by taking him on the same type of dates when he was little. So for our first date, as two teenagers with barely any money – we went to White Castles, where Phil purchased two cheeseburgers, one order of fries, and a milkshake, where he picked up two straws. Of course, I was still hungry, but it was so cute. And we got to sip our milkshake together like in the movies.
Favorite Thing to Do as a Couple
Watch movies, our TV shows, and playing video games together. Really doing absolutely nothing productive with each other.
Wedding Planning
A bit stressful due to the financial factor. But fun too! Deciding how we are going to do what WE want for our wedding, like going to the movies with a hundred of our family and friends, is unique and exciting!
Looking Forward to the Wedding
Walking in to the movie theater with a hundred guests dressed formally. And me plopping in a movie theater chair with a wedding dress on! So can’t wait for that moment!
