We’re always excited to share culturally rich and colorful weddings with you. Today’s wedding is full of laughter, culture, unity, and love. The photographs seamlessly tell a story, giving us a taste of the Ethiopian culture. Thanks to Jamie of Jamie Howell Photography for sharing these sweet photos with us. Enjoy!
Bride: Nina Ely Groom: Farid Hassan Date and location of wedding: Traditional Wedding Day: July 22, 2011 at Spring Hall Cultural Wedding Day: July 23, 2011 Pleasant Hill Event Hall Photography by Jamie Howell PhotographyThe First Encounter…
“We met through mutual friends in 2006. Farid came to Atlanta on vacation
from Switzerland. We were friends for years, but in December 2009, I came
to Switzerland during the winter holidays and strengthened our friendship.
We started dating soon after and on July 17, 2010, became engaged. We were
on vacation in NYC with a group of our friends. We left the group and took
a walk alone on the Brooklyn Bridge where he got down on one knee and
proposed. It was a complete surprise for the both of us. It was definitely
a night to remember!”
Nina describes her wedding day and the planning process…
“Planning the wedding had to be one of the most stressful days of our lives,
but definitely worth it in the end. In Ethiopian culture, it is normal to
have multiple day weddings, ranging from 2 days to sometimes a weeks worth
of celebrations. The first day of our wedding was the traditional American
style wedding. We combined the ceremony and reception in to one event at
Spring Hall. The second day of our wedding is called the Gufta Mowgad. It
is a traditional closing ceremony of the wedding where the bride is adorned
with cultural clothing and jewlery, as the elder woman of our tribe tie up
the bride’s hair and cover it with a beautiful scarf. Then wedding guests
continue to take pictures with the bride and groom. Afterwards, the party
continues with everyone dancing and singing along to the cultural music.
This was our favorite part of our wedding!”
Tell us one thing you love most about him.
“What I love most about Farid is his heart. He is unbelievably caring and
honest. His genuine personality and his handsome smile is what initially
drew me to him. He has this magnetic pull that intrigues people enough to
want to know more without giving too much about himself away. He is my best
friend, and every day I wake up excited to be lucky enough to spend at
least one more day with the man of my dreams.” – Nina
Tell us one thing he loves most about you.
“It is hard to point out one single thing that I love about Nina. There are
not enough words to explain how much I love her! I love every little piece
about her amazing personality. Every second I spend arround her makes me
fill up with happiness. She is so loving, caring, understanding, funny,
smart and amazingly beautiful both on the inside and outside. I love how
she can put a smile on my face even if I had a bad day. Not only is she the
love of my life but also my best friend. The best part of all is that I can
spend the rest of my life with her. I can’t wait to explore the world,
start a family and grow old with her!” – Farid
