Lillian Prince and Timothy Mitchell, Jr. have saved the date for May 7, 2016! Lillian, an Editor-in-Chief for an internal government newsletter and Timothy, a contractor and IT Specialist for the State Department, stationed in Afghanistan, are excited for the day that they will say, “I do” in front of family and friends at the University of Maryland chapel in College Park, Maryland.
A whirlwind romance that began in Dubai with roses and two bottles of perfume waiting for Lillian, the love affair between this couple has only continued to soar. The couple’s wanderlust has taken them around the world, landing at a “Passport to Love” wedding theme. The theme begins with this cleverly portrayed engagement shoot, taken at College Park Airport as the couple prepares to take flight for the next chapter of their romance.
Tell us about how you met and all about the proposal!
Tim and I have known each other for years. At least 10. We met many moons ago at a game night. My best friend, Jernee invited me to play cards with her newly engaged sister and her fiancé, Kevin. Tim was there as one of Kevin’s guests. We didn’t talk that much other than when we were talking trash to one another during an intense game of Spades.
Fast forward about five years and Tim saw me on a mutual friend’s Facebook page. He asked Kevin how I was doing and mentioned that he’d seen me, and that I’d “grown up.” From that point on, every single time I saw Kevin, he worked Tim into the conversation. This lasted for about a year. One night, after pretending I wasn’t listening, I decided to follow Tim on Instagram. I commented on one of his pictures and we started exchanging messages. We exchanged numbers shortly thereafter. Since the first day he texted me on September 5, 2013, we’ve talked every single day.
One day, he told me that the next time he would be home would be in February of 2014. We couldn’t wait that long, so about a month later he had to take care of some business in Dubai and he asked if I would fly out to meet him. I couldn’t believe it! I would have been happy meeting him at Six Flags but because of extraordinary circumstances, our first date was a week long in Dubai. We enjoyed each other’s company so much. We laughed and talked all night, every night. We had dinner at the Burj Khalifa and we fell in love.
Fast forward a year and a half later. He came home for Thanksgiving and suggested that I host at my house. I love to host so I figured this was the perfect opportunity for our families to mix and mingle. By the end of the night, I was exhausted. I was dressed comfortably in leggings and a tee shirt that was probably stained from all the food I’d eaten when all of a sudden I heard him say, “Excuse me, I’d like to make an announcement…”
I knew.
He walked over to me and in front of our families said, “The last year and a half has been amazing and I can’t imagine my life without you…” and it ended with him on one knee, our families cheering, and me screaming, “YES!”
Here we are almost two years and five countries later planning our wedding! My best friend that invited me to game night is my Maid of Honor and Kevin is an Honorary Groomsman. I can’t wait!
What’s your favorite thing to do as a couple?
We love to try new restaurants. Since he works in Afghanistan, he doesn’t get to eat the “good food” when he’s there so we always make it a point to try new restaurants when he’s home.
How has wedding planning been so far?
The wedding planning has been extremely smooth. We have an awesome wedding party and they have all been so supportive. Our parents are also really involved and I’ve made sure to include both sides on all decision making. With Tim being in Afghanistan, I talk to his Mom at least once a week about where we are with wedding plans.
Tell us what you’re looking forward to most on the wedding day.
I’m really looking forward to walking down the aisle and seeing the man that God saved just for me, waiting for me. It’s going to be an amazing day.
