Hortance was a ravishing bride during her December wedding in sunny Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Hortance and Gerald met and bonded over sports two years prior and have been inseparable ever since. The wedding was one of the best days of their lives and it’s easy and so lovely to see in their never ending beaming smiles. They shut Downtown Ft. Lauderdale down for their big day! What a day.
Wedding Date: December 6, 2014
Wedding Location: Downtown Fort Lauderdale, FL
First Dance Song: “Here and Now” by Luther Vandross
Tell us about how you met!
We met at a sports bar in Addison, TX during the 2012 NFL play off season. My friend, Sonya, invited me to watch one of the many games being played that Sunday. I didn’t have much planned for that afternoon, so I was more than willing to watch a little bit of football and talk smack to fans of the losing teams. Soon after we were settled in our seats and had our appetizers and drinks delivered, in walks Gerald and his friend, Moses. As they passed our table, Sonya got their attention by asking, “Hey are you guys twins?” (They look nothing alike). They turned around, introduced themselves and sat at the table behind ours. They soon invited us to sit with them to watch the game. After enjoying each other’s company for a couple of hours, Gerald and I exchanged numbers.
Wedding Style
My dress was an ivory colored fit and flare wedding gown with a Sweetheart neckline and asymmetrical pleats by Demetrios. The skirt on the dress featured a wrapped side pick-up with jeweled motif and attached Chapel train.
Culture
The Haitian cultural imprint was from my side of the family and was the menu during our reception: Haitian Black Rice and Peas, Haitian Rum Wedding Cake, and Cremas (a traditional drink served during holidays and special occasions) as favors. The Haitian Rum Wedding Cake was my favorite item on the menu! Delicious!
Memories
One of my favorite memories is seeing Gerald standing at the alter with the Fort Lauderdale skyline behind him. I was so happy to marry the man that makes my heart, spirit and mind so filled with peace and contentment; my King.
Another favorite memory is having the photos of our deceased parents placed on the front row. This was a sentimental reminder that they were also there celebrating our union.
Help a bride-to-be out!
Remember the wedding is the celebration of the love and commitment between the two of you. Do not allow the influence and opinions of others to derail from that important fact. Also, relax and enjoy your wedding day. Anything that was not resolved beforehand is not worth stressing over.
