Tell us about how you met and all about the proposal!
One of my girlfriends knew Mark through her cousin because the two of them were fraternity brothers. I asked her to introduce us. She told him I was interested and he sent me a message on Facebook, asking me on a date. The date was very casual…turns out, we were better as friends for the first year of knowing each other! Then one day, he realized he was falling in love with me! And I felt the same way! For the next year and a half we dated and it was absolutely wonderful! We attended everything from the Miami Heat Finals in June 2011 to The Presidential Inauguration in January 2013. Fast forward to April 2013, and we discovered we would be having a baby and he was due on Christmas Day!
I knew the proposal was coming and I was patiently awaiting its arrival! My mom was in town for Thanksgiving and I wanted to have dinner at my favorite restaurant, Ruth’s Chris. So the Saturday after Thanksgiving, Mark made reservations and the three (3 ½) of us headed to dinner. As we entered the restaurant the waitress greeted us and she asked, “Are you guys here for the marriage proposal?” I was so excited. She totally blew it, so I thought! All throughout dinner, I was thinking to myself, “When is he going to ask me?” But he never did. The next morning, I woke up and there he was on bended knee. He asked me to be his wife in the presence of my mother. I asked, “Have you talked to my daddy yet?” My father, a former state senator and my mom have always been my biggest champions! He replied, “Of course!” Our son, Mason arrived December 23, 2013.
Wedding Style
I knew that I wanted something unique and sexy that would make me feel like a beauty queen. I wore a blush-colored, fit and flare Maggie Sottero sequin and laced dress. I actually purchased my dress an entire year and a half prior to my wedding. Three months prior to going gown shopping with my mom, I gave birth and gained a lot of weight during my pregnancy. So it was very important that my dress complimented my figured. We didn’t have a date set for the wedding but I knew I wanted that dress. I had five different fittings and a terrific seamstress. No one would have ever known that I was wearing a dress that was originally two times larger. Everything turned out beautifully!
Our photographer suggested that we do a first look because we were having a late wedding so we would be racing for time to get nice daylight shots. I am so glad we went with his suggestion. It was so wonderful for us to see each other and spend a few special moments together before the wedding. Having time with my husband, our son, and my parents was really special.
Help a bride-to-be out!
Enjoy the process! I know it may sound cliché, but it’s true… You, will never get this time back again. Once the day is over, it’s over! Relish in the moment and soak up every minute of it. It’s easy to become consumed with charger plates, bridesmaid dresses, and processional music but in the grand scheme of things, those five hours will end before you know it. Also, be sure to make checklists. This saved my life! It was important that I had a list for each vendor’s responsibility and the seamless execution of that duty on the actual day.
