5 Things To Do in Philadelphia On Your Honeymoon

Philadelphia, the City of Brotherly Love, has so much to offer, it’s hard to keep up with all that’s going on. Especially when it comes to the arts. You’ll never find yourself without something to do in this beautiful city but here are a few ideas to get you started on the right path for your honeymoon itinerary.

1. The Arts in Philadelphia

When you think of Philadelphia, you think of the arts. Philadelphia has so much to offer. Whether you’re heading to an art gallery, a poetry reading, a play, a museum, etc… you will not be disappointed when you’re in Philly. On your trip to Philadelphia, be sure to take an obligatory photo in front of the LOVE Statue but also take a Mural Arts Tour (by foot, bike, train, segway, etc…) so that you can check out as many of the murals in the city as possible. You may have seeing a touring company of a Broadway show at The Academy of Music, Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, or Merriam Theater on your agenda but also be sure to take in a show from the Pennsylvania Ballet or a dance or orchestra performance at the Mann Center for the Performing Arts. And of course, the Philadelphia Museum of Art is a must. The exhibits that make their way here are unforgettable in the best way. 2. Outdoors

There’s always something to do at Penn’s Landing, day or night. During the summer, there are weekly outdoor movie screenings as well as free weekly concerts and lots to do while you wait for either to begin. There are over 200 shops, restaurants, galleries, spas, and more in Rittenhouse Row, making this spot a must visit for any tourist. Though if you need a break to regroup or relax, you can also make the beautiful Rittenhouse Square or the historical Washington Square Park your pit-stop. Both are great places to people watch, as locals and tourists merge, festivals around the city create the most beautiful background noise, and history surrounds you.

3. Literature

While you’re in Rittenhouse Square, consider visiting the Rosenbach Museum & Library which houses almost 400,000 rare books, manuscripts (including James Joyce’s handwritten manuscript for Ulysses), and more incredible literary objects (like Bram Stoker’s notes for Dracula). An upcoming exhibition, “Down the Rabbit Hole,” will celebrate 150 years of Alice in Wonderland and will include a pop-up display of the original manuscript. If you are a lover of literature, this is definitely a bucket list stop, along with the nearby Edgar Allan Poe National Historic Site for the gothic horror poetry fan. Finally, if you’re looking for a great independent bookstore, check out The Last Word Bookstore which has a vast range of popular and out of print novels at just the right price. You might just find yourself returning with your spouse every year to pick out a gem or two.

4. History

If you’re thinking about visiting Philadelphia without checking out all of the history that there is in this beautiful city, change of plans. You cannot skip out on these tourist spots. They are worth every visit, all of which will give you an even deeper appreciation for not only this city but this country. So be sure to visit the Benjamin Franklin Museum, Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell, and my favorite, the National Constitution Center.

5. Indulge

For soul food and live music, you’ll want to make a reservation at Warmdaddy’s. The menu is quite good and the live music is fantastic. There are such good vibes coming from this place, you’ll be glad you took the time out to try it out. For a hidden gem when it comes to desserts, visit Cake and the Beanstalk. One look at the image below and well, I don’t really need to say anymore. And of course, no Philly food trip is complete without a trip to Reading Terminal Market. Really, you must go there.
