“My husband and I always laugh while telling this story as it was not exactly love at first sight,” Martina shares. The couple’s mutual friends thought the pair would be the perfect match. But a series of unfortunate events created a clash of the titans kind of experience for the two. A few years later, they reconnected at a social gathering in which Martina realized that their initial head-butting was due in part to their blatant similarities. “I realized we had so much more in common than I originally thought. We spent the rest of the event immersed in laughter and conversation with one another and exchanged numbers after leaving our friend’s house,” she shares. One night after dinner the couple took a long walk on the beach exchanging dreams and aspirations with one another; it was at that moment that Martina knew she had possibly met the man she would forever make footprints in the sand with.
The loving pair wed in an elegant ceremony last fall. The beautiful bride donned an ornate ball gown while her “Superman” lovingly swept her in his arms. Judy Nunez Photography captured the gorgeous images of Martina and Barry’s turquoise wedding.

Tell us all about the proposal!
On April 20, 2014, Barry surprised me with family and friends at the Charleston Harbor in front of the monumental pineapple. I thought we were meeting the family there in honor of my grandparents so I was a little perplexed as to why everyone was encouraging Barry and I to take a picture first in front of the Pineapple Monument instead of my grandparents. My heart dropped as I watched him go down on one knee. I was utterly surprised! Saying yes to my best friend in front of family and friends was truly an unforgettable day!
Describe your wedding dress and your shopping experience
My journey of finding my dream wedding dress began at the very first boutique I visited. I was very particular and thought that I would only be happy in a mermaid style. However, while picking out those style of dresses to try on, one particular dress caught my eye. Hanging right next to a mermaid style dress was an elegant ball gown dress. The bodice was encrusted with rhinestones and pearls and the rest of the dress was layered in tulle. It looked like the ultimate Cinderella dress and I knew I could not leave that boutique without trying it on. Once I stepped out of the fitting room, I knew this would be the dress I would wear on one of the most memorable days of my life. My mother and grandmother urged me to visit other boutiques to be “sure”. However, it was clear after the third store that no other dress could come close to the dress I had chosen.
What is your favorite memory of your wedding day?
Both my husband and I agree one of the best memories from that day was watching our one year old daughter come down in the aisle in a decorated wagon as our flower girl. She seemed so cool, calm, and collected as if she was taking in the moment herself. She was a prime example of our love and although I could only watch hidden away, it brought tears to my eyes to see my husband’s expression as well and it made me even more anxious to come out and join my family.
What advice do you have for our brides-to-be?
Have fun with each other throughout the entire planning and preparation process! As stressful as planning a weeding is, you never want to lose sight of why your getting married in the first place.
