After being introduced by a mutual friend, Elishaba and Delvyn spent the next few months in deep conversation over the phone.
With their commonalities drawing them together, they scheduled their first date at Del Fresco in City Center DC, talking for hours and continuing to reaffirm their connection. One date led to another and it wasn’t long before discussions of marriage and a life spent together were a consistent topic. Elishaba and Delvyn look forward to “entering into a covenant with a partner we both have prayed for our whole lives,” when they are pronounced husband and wife during their resort wedding in Virginia this September 28th.

Tell us how you met and all about the proposal. We met through a mutual friend, and the rest is history. For the proposal, Delvyn and I talked about getting married quite a few times as our partnership strengthened, but nothing too serious. At his brother’s wedding, Delvyn mentioned that he would be the best husband ever! I, of course, laughed it off! A few months later, we traveled to Philadelphia from Virginia for the “Made in America” Festival over Labor Day weekend. Before we departed, Delvyn asked if it was okay to move our dinner reservations up so we could dine with some of his colleagues based in the Philadelphia region. When we arrived in Philly, he told me that his colleagues had to decline the invite, and he and I would just go and enjoy the meal without them. When dessert came out, on the plate it read “Will You Marry Me?” and of course I said YES!
What did you do on your first date? We met through a mutual friend and talked on the phone for a couple of months before we decided to meet up in DC. We had our first date at Del Frisco, in City Center and spent hours talking and reaffirming our connection.
What’s your favorite thing to do as a couple? We’re both foodies! We love trying new restaurants in and around the DC area.
Describe your engagement session. Our engagement shoot was magical! Edward was so genuine and complemented our personalities perfectly. He really captured us and our love. We were really happy to choose locations that truly showcased our love story too. That was really important.
How did you know they were “the one”? Those first interactions confirmed that the chemistry and friendship we built over the phone was real. We’ve been together ever since.
How has wedding planning been so far? A whirlwind! We decided to only use Black-owned vendors for the wedding, including our venue. We wanted to make sure we invested in our community. We are thankful for a platform like Munaluchi for introducing us to so many amazing people who are transforming our vision into reality.
What you’re looking forward to most on the wedding day? Entering into a covenant with a partner we both have prayed for our whole lives and seeing black excellence. I want to go to church during the ceremony, and then have an epic party in Jesus’ name!
