How they met…
Cynthia McFadden: 1/11/2020 is when God saw fit for these two hectic lives to cross paths. D’Nita was supposed to go to an event with my co-worker, who also happened to be Ryan’s sister-in-law. D’Nita called her to let her know that the event was postponed, and she said she and her brother had just finished taking the kids to a movie.
Being the jokester that D’Nita is, and not knowing that she was on speakerphone, she playfully and flirtatiously said, “Tell your brother I said, heeeyyyy!” In turn, he replied, “Hey friend!” D’Nita screamed in shock! They chatted briefly. D’Nita sent Ryan a picture to his phone, and that was the beginning of the best love story ever!
Then, on 1/13/2020, after two days of phone conversations and texting, they met in person! Hence, the significance of the day and why they chose it as their wedding date!
The proposal:
Ryan: Birthdays are a big deal to D’Nita, she typically celebrates all month. We always take a trip, and that year, we decided on Destin, Florida. D’Nita thought it would just be us, but several of our family members decided to join us as we got closer to the trip. D’Nita didn’t think much of it. We always had an elegant dinner night on our trips, so we went to Seagar’s Prime. We were in the middle of dinner when I got down on one knee! D’Nita finally realized what was going on and said, “YES!” She was shocked to see a ring in her champagne glass the whole time!
Wedding style:
D’Nita: We went with the theme of “Beauty and the Beast,” so we knew we needed to go the custom route for our attire. We wanted a traditional yet opulent regal feel for our looks. For Ryan’s suite, we went to Imperial Customs and had them create a modern version of the royal blue suit synonymous with the movie.
My dress, on the other hand, was not so simple.
After three different searches in 2 different states and getting my customization requests denied by my preferred designer, I had to return to the drawing board. That landed us in Columbus, Ohio, at Ela Rose Sweet Weddings. They created a design concept and made all my required customizations.
I knew I wanted a blinged-out 3-in-1 gown to convert to my reception gown. And after all of that, I still had to make alterations! The bridesmaid’s dresses came from As One Bridal in Columbia, SC, and through the owner, Ms. Tiffany, I found an angel on earth. Ms. Brenda saved the day. She altered, steamed, and cleaned my dress! And even came to the venue to get me dressed! It wasn’t the fairytale experience but it ended up coming together in the end.

Favorite wedding memory…
My favorite part was singing to my husband as I walked down the aisle. We also did our unity puzzle and vow of parenthood with our daughter as the band played “Golden Hour” in the background.

Advice for other engaged couples…
Enjoy the experience. It’s your day that you two are planning together, so the only people that matter that day are you two! Ignore all background noise!
