When Sheena and Khayri met at church, it was as if time stopped and everyone else in the room disappeared. It sounds like a romantic movie cliché, but that is exactly how they felt. And it was a feeling they had never felt before.
They had a magical first date at an Italian restaurant and have been inseparable ever since.

How Did You Meet?
Khayri and I met when I visited his church, Hempstead Assembly of God, and our mutual friend, Francois introduced us. My sister Cassandra and Francois thought we would be a good match. Honestly, I count that as one of my best days because it was beautiful. The day we met, it was like time stopped. I often make fun of him because I thought he shook my hand for a long time. However, that wasn’t the case. Meeting him made me understand what people mean when they say their heart skipped a beat. I sound cheesy but, it felt like that scene in a movie where two people meet, and suddenly everything else fades into the background. He often says that when we met, it was like everything and everyone disappeared. He shot his shot in front of multiple people!
What Did You Do on Your First Date?
Our first date was magical. We went to an Italian restaurant and talked the whole time. We barely ate! We wanted to know so much about each other, and it was like the time was not enough. It was cute! Italians are very famous for their love language so I can say the atmosphere really helped too. We picked the right place for our first date.
Tell Us Your Proposal Story
We have the most amazing proposal story. Khayri asked me to shoot a video for his friend at the church. The video was about couples in quarantine. It was to be an interactive session, and we would answer questions about things like how COVID has affected our relationship as a couple. I loved the idea, so I said yes, and we showed up.
So, there I was, all excited about being in a shoot and grateful for the opportunity to help. Next thing, as Khayri’s friend was asking questions about our relationship and how close we are on camera, Khayri bent on one knee and proposed to me. You can imagine how happy I felt! I had butterflies in my stomach and was turning cartwheels in my mind. I didn’t even know that our close friends and family were in the next room. I said yes, it turned into a celebration and I was so happy.
When Did You Know He/She Was “The One”?
God has been at the center of our relationship since day one. He continues to be at the center, and I will be forever grateful for this. I knew Khayri was the one about a week into our relationship when he preferred to wait on God before asking me to be his girlfriend. We both did a 21 day fast for clarity, and it was so refreshing. I knew Khayri was the man God wanted for me.
Describe Your Engagement Session. Did You Have A Theme?
Well, since we met in Long Island, we wanted a New York Theme. So, we spoke to our photographer about it, and that’s what we got. Our engagement session incorporated Long island in the most beautiful of ways. We used the Long Island City Skyline.
What’s Your Favorite Thing to Do as A Couple?
We love spending time with family. We also love to go out on different dates like Improv class and go to a lake to skip rocks. Honestly, just spending time with Khayri is enough for me most days. I am so happy God blessed me with something this special.
How Has Wedding Planning Been So Far?
AMAZING!!! We work so well together. Finding the venue was a piece of cake. We’ll be using the Sand Castle Venue in Long Island. We booked our photographer Kesha Lambert easily, and I am getting my dress from PantoraBridal. Our Wedding day coordinator is Sas-E-Event and our Entertainment is NITENDAZE ENT. It’s been such a breeze because God is at the center of it, and we trust Him completely.
Tell Us What You’re Looking Forward to Most on The Wedding Day?
I am looking forward to marrying my best friend. Allowing God to do what he has been doing since day one, which is, bless us beyond anything we ask for. I pray that our friends and family enjoy themselves while witnessing our union.
