How did you meet?
Omari and I met online via Match.com during the summer of 2014.
Tell us your proposal story.
Omari and I talked about having a big trip for our vacation in 2019. After tossing around a few locations we ultimately decided on New Orleans. Little did I know that this would be the time when he planned to propose, he even contacted my parents the Friday before we left on vacation to seek their blessing.
After a wonderful week of adventures in the Big Easy we ended the last full night on a steamboat dinner cruise. We talked about our future together and I was pretty sure that we’d be taking the next step in our relationship soon, however, I could have never guessed it would be that night. We walked back to the hotel and to our room where I sat down and began composing a message on my phone. I remember hearing Omari rumbling in the closet but thought he was getting his things together for our trip back home. Then out of the corner of my eye, I see him kneeling beside me, asking me to be his wife. We called our parents to tell them the news and enjoyed a glass of bubbly to cap off what would be the best night ever!
Describe your engagement session.
We enjoy dining and exploring restaurants and shops in Old Town Alexandria. It’s a beautiful area and we thought it would be the perfect fall backdrop for our pictures. Most of all, we wanted pictures that captured how much we enjoy each other and the love we have for one another.
What did you do on your first date?
When we initially started talking I lived in South Carolina and Omari lived in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia. We agreed that a neutral space would be best for our first meeting, so we chose Richmond. Our first date weekend consisted of dinners, a visit to the museum, a walk through the Carytown neighborhood of Richmond, and cupcakes!
What’s your favorite thing to do as a couple?
Both Omari and I are avid runners and enjoy participating in races together. We also love watching movies and going to wine tastings.
How has wedding planning been so far?
We nailed down our wedding date and venues within a few weeks of our engagement. Since our wedding is in November, we took our engagement photos last fall. We are thankful that we got so much done now that we’re having to plan in the midst of COVID-19. However, we are steadily moving along and hope to have a happy and healthy wedding day with family and friends.
Tell us what you’re looking forward to most on the wedding day.
I look forward to becoming his wife and starting our life together as one.
