It was Jamie’s unmatched beauty, intelligence, and grace that intrigued Alfonso. From the moment they met at work, he knew she was special.
So special that when Alfonso was ready to propose, he decided to document the whole moment. Jamie shares, “Al proposed in front of over 50 of our friends and family members. He had one of my favorite singers/guitarists Al Bettis sing one of my favorite songs ‘In Case You Didn’t Know’ as I walked toward him. He had our immediate family members holding signs. Each one had one reason why he loved me written on it. The proposal was absolutely beautiful!” We agree, and you can watch it all below.
For their engagement shoot, they showcased their fun-loving personalities while capturing photos around the city of Detroit. While COVID-19 caused them to postpone their wedding plans, they are looking forward to exchanging vows in the fall surrounded by family and friends. Read their inspiring love story below!

How did you meet?
Alfonso and I met working for Villa Healthcare in Detroit, MI.
Tell us your proposal story.
Alfonso proposed on Saturday, November 2, 2019, at Heritage Park in Canton, MI. He convinced my sorority sister to trick me into thinking I was going with her to her mom’s birthday party. Al proposed in front of over 50 of our friends and family members. He had one of my favorite singers/guitarists Al Bettis sing one of my favorite songs “In Case You Didn’t Know” as I walked toward him. He had our immediate family members holding signs. Each one had 1 reason why he loves me written on it. The proposal was absolutely beautiful!
Describe your engagement session.
We didn’t have a theme for our engagement session; we were just excited about the session because it was going to take place in Downtown Detroit. We met with Olivia and our videographer (IG @brandonfullfilms) on top of the Z Parking Garage. We had no idea what to expect, and we honestly had no expectations. We just wanted to have fun and for our photos to truly express our love for each other. Olivia did a great job capturing all of that. She also captured shots in the BELT Alley Way and Eastern Market. Detroit has so many gems that people don’t know about. We had fun and we were anxious to get our photos back to share them with family and friends.
One thing I remember most about our session was feeling insecure about my recent weight gain. Olivia encouraged me to be confident and reassured me that I was beautiful. I look back at our photos and I see the weight but I also see the smiles, the laughter, and the love.
What did you do on your first date?
Our first date was at Paint With a Twist in Dearborn. Our paintings of the “Celestial Moon” were terrible but we laughed a lot and had a great time. I’m pretty sure my painting is buried in my closet somewhere. ( Yes, it was that bad lol) A week or so later we went to Escape Room Zone in Farmington, MI. We escaped the “Lost In Space” room with 1:58 seconds left. Being “locked” in a room and having to work together to get out is no easy task but WE DID IT! We had dinner after at the Basement Burger Bar down the street. They had karaoke that night and I begged Alfonso to get up and sing with me. Long story short, we didn’t sing! lol
What’s your favorite thing to do as a couple?
Our favorite thing to do is travel and explore new things together. We are both essential healthcare workers. We are still working during this time and are long overdue for a vacation! Due to COVID-19, a lot of our time recently has been spent indoors trying new keto recipes and binge watching shows on Netflix and Hulu.
How has wedding planning been so far?
Wedding planning has been a blast! Initially we planned to hire a wedding planner but later decided against it. We planned the entire wedding ourselves and we’re excited to see it all come together on the big day. Most brides experience a lot of stress leading up to their wedding. I thank God I haven’t been stressed out about much, even during the pandemic. We are taking it one day at a time.
Tell us what you’re looking forward to most on the wedding day.
The thing I’m most looking forward to is marrying my best friend. I can’t wait to spend my life growing with and loving Alfonso. I am also excited to be surrounded by our family and friends on that day. Both of my grandparents passed away in April due to COVID-19. They were really excited about my wedding, especially my Papa. He couldn’t wait to stand with my step-dad to give me away. I’m saddened that they can’t be with us on that day. I want one thing on my wedding day and that is to be surrounded by, wrapped in, and overcome by the amount of LOVE in the room.
Also, I love to dance (I mean I really love dancing). I’m looking forward to dancing the night away.
