Najah & Jeff’s intimate Memphis engagement session is a walk to remember with a stop at the Orpheum Theater, where Jeff proposed!
College sweethearts, Najah and Jeff, first met at Middle Tennessee State University during their Sophomore Year. For their first date, Jeffrey planned a casual dinner and a movie. Najah recalls, “It was very traditional, but cute. Keep in mind we were college students. Once I got into his car, he told me to look under my seat. Under it, I found a single rose. After that I was hooked.”
This sweet moment was to be one of many for these two! And as the ultimate surprise, Jeff asked Najah to marry him in her hometown of Memphis. After being blindfolded and driven to an undisclosed destination, Jeff finally removed her blindfold to reveal they were standing outside the Orpheum Theater. The Theater holds meaning for Najah as she and her family frequently went there when she was a child. When she looked up at the marquee, a special message awaited her: “Najah, will you marry me?’ Realizing her friends and family were surrounding her and turning around to see Jeff on one knee, of course she said yes!
The pair will return to Memphis for their beautiful wedding in the fall. Until then, we invite you to celebrate their upcoming nuptials by viewing their intimate walk to remember below!

How they met…
Middle Tennessee State University, Sophomore Year
Their first date…
Jeffery planned our first date. We went to dinner and a movie. It was very traditional, but cute. Keep in mind we were college students. Once I got into his car, he told me to look under my seat. Under it, I found a single rose. After that I was hooked. The movies became one of our favorite things to do on date nights.
When Najah knew she found “the one”…
It’s hard to pinpoint one specific day or time, but I knew when we first started dating that he was different. He is the definition of a southern gentleman. He always put me first, no matter how many years went by. Jeffery is very intentional. He understands that it’s the little things that matter.
With that in mind, he always goes out of his way to make me feel special and reminds me just how much I mean to him through kind gestures on the regular. Whether it’s a candlelit bubble bath after a long day at work, or a romantic movie night in with my favorite wine and candy. From day one he understood the assignment. He always tries his best to keep a smile on my face, and we always have a great time together. I’m lucky to be marrying a man I can truly call my best friend.
When Jeffery knew Najah was “the one”…
I knew Najah was the one during the week of our undergraduate graduation.
At the time, our lives were heading in two different directions. Najah was about to move back home to Memphis and begin grad school. While I was about to move to Birmingham to begin my career in local broadcast news. I was pondering whether our time together was just puppy love, or if we were meant to be more. Najah proved the latter. I was nervous about leaving my friends and family behind and starting a new chapter in my life on my own.
During that time, Najah really showed up for me. She stopped me from getting cold feet and reassured me that I could do it, quelling my fears and pouring into me like no woman had ever done before. She even managed to plan her own graduation party, and a surprise birthday party for me all in the same week. I knew then that I didn’t want to do life without her.
The proposal…
While visiting family in Memphis, Jeffery told me to come outside and blindfolded me, then led me to the car. I had no idea where we were going. After about a 20-minute drive, Jeffery helped me out of the car and led me to a sidewalk. He then took off the blindfold and I noticed we were outside the Orpheum theater in downtown Memphis. My family and I used to go there all the time when I was a child. But instead of the marquee advertising upcoming shows, it displayed a special message: “Najah, will you marry me?” I then noticed that I was surrounded by my friends and family. Once the shock wore off, I turned around and saw Jeffery down on one knee. He then asked me to marry him, and I said yes!
Favorite thing to do as a couple…
We love to travel, go to the movies, ride bikes on bike trails, and roller skate.
Wedding planning so far…
It has been a great experience so far; we have amazing wedding planners that have helped us every step of the way.
What they’re looking forward to most on their wedding day…
Najah is most looking “forward to walking down the aisle and marrying [her] best friend.”
Jeffery shares, “I’m looking forward to the honeymoon, for obvious reasons.”
