Tell us how you met and all about the proposal. We met in the summer of 2003 at the beginning of volleyball preseason at the University of South Carolina. I played volleyball with David’s older sister in college, and David had accompanied his sister on the trip to Columbia.
David proposed very unexpectedly after a trip to Costa Rica. He got down on one knee in an apartment front garden during an evening conversation.
What was wedding shopping like for you? Dress shopping was a breeze – got it online without any drama – a mermaid style with a sweetheart neckline!
Bridesmaids/Groomsmen gifts: Bridesmaids: personalized gifts (shoes, bags, clothes picked for each by the bride). Groomsmen: cigar humidors
Favorite item on the menu: Shrimp & grits
First dance song: Sound and Color – Alabama Shakes
Did you incorporate any culture into your wedding? I have West Indian roots so we made sure to incorporate plenty of soca music. David has roots in the Deep South so we made sure to tailor our menu accordingly.
What is your best memory from your wedding? We wrote our own vows. David is not a really sentimental guy, so hearing his vows made it real for me.
What is the best wedding advice you can give to engaged couples? Don’t sweat the small stuff, and hire a wedding planner!! It also helps to have a best friend who is also a bomb wedding photographer!!
