“I felt his whole soul enter my body.”
Alexis’ remarkable testimony as to what occurred when her future husband walked by her left us breathless. While at a Nike store in college, she and Demetri crossed paths due to her persistent mother persuading her to go college shopping- like all mothers do, of course!
The couple’s full circle moment came when Demetri proposed in Las Vegas at a Nike store and their spectacular Greek wedding journey began.
Saying their I Do’s on the picturesque Greek island of Santorini, The Huffman’s sun-drenched coastal ceremony was captured by Jao Photography. The breathtaking location of their nuptials would make any couple say yes to having their bohemian destination wedding in the beautiful village of Megalochori, Greece.
Immediately following their wedding, family and friends joined the newlyweds and their children at a romantic candle-lit family-style dinner under a centuries-old windmill overlooking the Aegean Sea.

Tell Us How You Met And All About The Proposal
On August 26, 2012 I was preparing for another year of college. My parents came out to Portland to help me get set up for the year. We were heading to Target to get all the essentials I needed. To our surprise, the target was closed due to construction. My mom suggested that we go to the Nike store. I love some Nike but for some reason I was not a fan of that suggestion that day. She dragged me and my dad down to the Nike store.
Since we were there I decided I wanted to find some recently released Kobe Bryant shoes. As I was determined to find these shoes this guy walked past me. Now it was not your typical walk passed glance at someone. I felt his whole soul enter my body. I ignored it and continued my hunt for the shoes.
A couple minutes later we crossed paths again and he stopped to talk to me. He asked if he could take me out in 6 months. He was visiting with family for his younger sister’s soccer tournament and they too made an unexpected stop at the nike store. After a couple minutes talking his little sister approached us, and he quickly asked for my number before he had to leave. I always joke, I could not reject him in front of his little sister. I gave him my number and here we are years later.
The proposal
Fast forward to our proposal we were in Vegas helping my mom out with a recent surgery. We were supposed to go home but ended up staying an extra week. My sister and niece were also there visiting. It was August 26,2021 so we were planning to go out to celebrate our anniversary. He said he got reservations for everyone to go since we all were cooped up in the house for the past week.
As we arrived at the location we were early for our reservation and there was a nike store nearby so he suggested we went in there first. When we arrived he said he ordered me some shoes and someone went to get them from the back. I wasn’t thinking anything of it besides a nice gift. As I opened the box of shoes, there was customized stitching that read, “Will you marry me?” That’s when he got down on one knee and proposed, I was in complete shock.
Let’s talk about shoes. The shoe was a Kobe Byrant shoe. If you remember from above I was looking for a Kobe shoe the day we met but didn’t find any. It had the day we met on one side and the day he proposed on the other. Also the Portland skyline for the city we met and all of our children’s names. I was completely surprised. He’s not the romantic type so he enjoys all my friends believing he’s so thoughtful and creative. He often reminds me of that too.
How Did You Know They Were “The One”?
I knew he was the one instantly. We vibed so well from the very beginning and we have similar interests, but also completely different personalities. We both fulfill each other’s cups in everything we lack.

The Details
Due to Covid restrictions our original photographer could no longer make it. I hired Jao Photography about a month before our wedding. So thankful he was able to squeeze us in his busy schedule.
