Describe your business: Short Stuff Photography specializes in wedding and portrait photography.
What did you do before starting your business in the wedding industry? I owned two childcare centers in Enterprise and Dothan, Alabama. I am the largest privately owned childcare center in the area.
How long have you been in the wedding industry? I did my first paid wedding in 2016, about three years ago.
How would you describe your style? I like classy and elegant because it never goes out of style. A clean and simple look, and I also love color. To add a splash of color to a picture. I’m not really too much into the filters that are popular right now. I tend to see the beauty in the everyday!
What motivates you? I love beating and exceeding expectations! I’m also motivated by love, whether that’s showing love or capturing love in photos. Seeing the love of a woman for her boo, or how a mother loves her child. I’m captivated by it, so I love to capture it as well.
Why should brides/grooms choose you? I become a part of the family during the wedding day process. I’m going to roll up my sleeves and get things done. I’m going to be comfortable and open with you. Weddings are already stressful, pictures shouldn’t be.
How does your company define and measure success? Success can be measured in so many different ways, but for me, one of the major things is being able to actually run a profitable photography studio in rural Alabama. That includes staying booked and being given the privilege of being booked to travel and shoot weddings.
What do you enjoy most about your work? Making people happy. Documenting memories and milestones that they and their families and friends get to cherish, even after they’re gone.
Describe a proud moment while working in the wedding industry. Booking my first paid wedding, which led to the next, and the next. Being referred by brides and couples to other engaged couples and being able to showcase my work that leads to other bridal shoots.
What’s the best compliment you’ve received for your work? Receiving the Best Photographer Award in my town. Also, anytime my work is featured or shared is a huge compliment! Someone saying “hey, look at this amazing photo Kishia took” is an amazing compliment!
What are your business goals? I’m looking to break the six-figure mark to include 20 weddings and 55 clients total for the year. I want to become published as well and of course, go viral!
What’s your favorite part of the wedding industry? Definitely the glitz and glamour! All of the beautiful designs and the hair and makeup, the decorations, and all the fine details that go into giving each wedding it’s own special pop!
What’s your least favorite part of the wedding industry? It can be a little clique-ish at times. Sometimes you have to know the right people to get your foot in the door somewhere. Also, it may take some time to find your niche and know what works best for you!
Describe your vision of the “perfect” wedding. One that stays on schedule! In all seriousness, I’d love to do a destination wedding! Capturing a couple’s wildest fantasies while they display their love would be huge! I want to bring that to life for them!
Where do you find the most inspiration? Like most, I go to Pinterest and Instagram. I draw inspiration from others and their amazing work!
Is there anything else you’d like our readers to know? I love to travel, so I don’t mind traveling for your day. I’d LOVE to talk to you about how I can make your dream visions for your special day come to life.
