A seemingly random day it may have seemed when Ashley and Rodney walked to class on the campus of Widener University in 2011, unsuspecting that in that moment both would cross paths with love of their life. Guided by the stars right into each other’s arms, they couldn’t help but notice the other. In that moment the seed of love was planted and so began their journey down the path of happily ever after…

Tell us how you met and all about the proposal. Ashley and Rodney met on the campus of Widener University in 2011 as they crossed paths in route to class. After dinner at Ruth Chris one warm May night in Northern California, Rodney surprised Ashley by proposing, deciding it was time to continue on this trip we call life – together forever.
How did you know they were “the one?” I knew Rodney was “the one” when he was given the option to move to Tokyo for his job but instead chose the position in northern California. I was able to work and get an amazing job here with one of the top hospitals in the area. He put our relationship first in that moment and choose us.
What was wedding shopping like for you? Dress shopping was the most fun! I had my mom, mother in law and maid of honor there for support. We made it a full girls day with dinner and drinks after to celebrate.
Did you incorporate any culture into your wedding? We wanted our moms to be a part of the ceremony. We incorporated a unity candle and during the ceremony we had them both light each side of the candle to signify that we even though we are married we still have our individuality.
Wedding party gifts: I gave my girls champagne flutes with their names on it, custom robes with their names on it and a pair of earrings.
Favorite item on the menu: My favorite was our signature wedding cocktail called “White Wedding” it consisted of Stoli Razz Vodka, St Germaine, Lemon Juice and White Cranberry Juice served with a gold sugar rim. Rodney’s favorite was the Chilean Sea bass with ginger-lemongrass miso sauce.
First dance song: “Best part” by Daniel Caesar ft. H.E.R
What is your best memory from your wedding? Having Rodney’s father marry us was amazing. He knows us both well so it meant a lot to have someone we love marry us in front of all our friends and family.
What is the best wedding advice you can give to engaged couples? Enjoy your cocktail hour. If you don’t mind seeing your significant other before the ceremony, do a first look – take all your portrait pictures before so you can enjoy your wedding day!
