Atiya + Jimmy: New York City Engagement Session

Ok. So we’ve been getting lots of e-session submissions lately that are amazing.  Couples in love, looking lovely, loving life, and looking to spread the love with our readers.  But when we came across this one, we gasped.  Why?  The couple is just too cute, actually, “fly” would be a better description.  And not just that…the photography is amazing.  Great angles, and excellent job at framing the pics.  When you take a look at this modern urban e-session, you’ll feel like you were actually in the city with the lovebirds.  Thanks to Kimie James of IYQ photography for sharing these stunning photos, and much thanks to Atiya and Jimmy for sharing their love story with us.  Meet the couple.

ON HOW THEY MET:

“Jim and I met in Spanish class during our Freshman year of High School and eleven years later, he asked me to share the rest of his life with him. A few days before he actually proposed, Jim told me he had to go out of town for work, little did I know he plotted and schemed with my college room mate and his best friend to kidnap me and leave me clueless every step of the way. My college room mate came to NY for the weekend so we planned to meet up. As I was leaving from where she was staying, Jim’s best friend greeted me and the doorstep, took my car keys, ushered me into Jim’s car where I was given a bag of clothing and items needed for a trip to the spa with a typed note from Jim telling me to have a good time while he was away. I arrived at the spa, and was given the royal treatment. While at the spa, the attendant greeted me with another bag of clothes to change into, this bag included shoes, a gown, jewelry and a note that a dinner reservation was in my name. I kept on calling Jim to figure out what was going on but his phone was going straight to voice mail so I assumed he was still on the plane. After leaving the spa, his best friend drives me to the restaurant and I go inside and was led to a candle lit table for two. As soon as I finally realized what was happening, Jim appeared from behind the curtains, got down on one knee and the rest was all a blur of excitement and awe.”

THE WEDDING PLANS:

“Even though our big day is yet to come, culture is a big part of who we are. We are both Afro- Caribbean, his parents are from Trinidad and mine are from Jamaica. We plan to tie in traditional elements of our culture with different aspects ranging from food to music.”

“According to him, the one thing he loves most about me is my commitment. Whether it be taking time to devote to my family, or my responsibilities at church. There is an art to commitment which requires sacrifice and not everyone understands that but I do, and I execute it well.”

“I love the way he loves, not just only in how he spoils and nurtures me but over the years I’ve watched him with his family, his large gang of God- children, his friends and most important of all is his evolving and growing love for God.”
