Camille and Rickey took to the Arena District and The Hilton Downtown Columbus for their engagement session in all black and white as they prepare for their very unconventional black and white themed July wedding. Whether or not you agree with the reasoning behind the black and white theme, one thing is certain… their engagement session is red hot!
Tell us about how you met and all about the proposal!
I was on a missionary trip in Honduras while Rickey was visiting his mother after a long deployment. While I was in Honduras, Rickey attended my uncle’s birthday dinner with his mother (Rickey’s mother is longtime friends with my Uncle’s wife). At dinner, my parents were sitting next to Rickey and his mother. They were chatting and the topic came up that both Rickey and I were single. The parents thought that Rickey should take me out on a date once I returned from my trip. After my father did his normal interrogation, he approved and thought that he would be a good match for me.
A few days later, I returned home. Before I could even unpack, my mother said, “Camille, don’t be mad at me. I kind of set you up on a date.” I was at first annoyed, until I heard who they set me up with. Both Rickey and I were attracted to one another, but the timing was never right. Once I said I would go on a date with him, my mother stormed downstairs to message my answer to Rickey’s mother. Rickey and I texted one another for a week and by the end of the week, we went on our first date. After our first date, we were inseparable.
After a long day of travel, Rickey gave me a shoulder massage. Dozing off from the bliss of my massage, I did not realize that Rickey snuck in front of me, knelt down on one knee and started to propose. When I opened my eyes, I did not hear a word Rickey said, I simply screamed as soon as I saw him on one knee with a ring. He then placed the ring on my finger and we held one another for what it seemed to be hours.
The engagement session…
We wanted to wear all black because our guests will be in all black at the wedding, while we will be in white. The reason for the black and white attire, is because we see things in the black and white. With this, we also see marriage as black and white. We believe that gray represents confusion and double mindedness. On the day we say, “I do,” we are saying yes to each other, and no to whatever may try to destroy the covenant we will make on July 30, 2016. We are both believers in Christ, and we realize that God should be in the center of our marriage. He will lead us on a clear path, as clear as black and white.
What did you do on your first date?
We went bowling and then played pool. We found out quickly that we were both pretty competitive.
What’s your favorite thing to do as a couple?
We love to travel and watch action movies.
How has wedding planning been so far?
Wedding planning has been great. Having Lucretia Williams as our wedding planner has definitely taken the normal stresses of wedding planning away. I highly recommend having a wedding planner. With our schedules, it would be almost impossible to pull off a wedding like this in eleven months.
Tell us what you’re looking forward to most on the wedding day.
Rickey is looking forward to the part when we say, “I do.” I am excited to hear the pastor present us as Mr. and Mrs. Rickey James Harris, Jr.
