A local hangout spot at Georgia Southern called Rudy’s will always hold a special place in Breauna and Christopher’s hearts. This was where they first locked eyes on one another. Breauna recalls, “I had seen him on campus a couple of times and knew that I wanted to get to know him. I finally had a chance when I saw him at Rudy’s with his friends. I told my roommate that I was going to walk past him, and if he did not grab me to dance then it wasn’t meant to be, but if he did grab me to dance then I [knew] that we are going to be together! And he grabbed me…and 6 years later we are in the process of getting married!”
We are thrilled to share Breauna and Christopher’s engagement session and love story with you today and wish them a happy wedding day! (They are getting married today:))
Couple: Breauna Hagan and Christopher Dorelus
Occupations: Volunteer Manager at a refugee resettlement agency and Volunteer Coordinator at a Food Bank
Wedding date: October 9, 2016
Engagement shoot locations: Dekalb Peachtree Airport and Breauna’s grandfather’s house in Georgia
The proposal:
Breauna was buried deep in papers and projects for the final leg of her Public Administration Masters program. After graduating, her friends and family gathered together for what she thought was an intimate graduation party complete with Haitian food and good times.
From Breauna:
My mother kicked it off by asking if everyone would come around the table and hold hands for prayer. Before we started prayer, she asked if there was anyone who wanted to say any remarks to me. There were a couple of people who Express their love and well wishes. Then came Chris. He was talking about how dedicated I was and how much he loved me and how much he has been able to learn from me over or six years of dating. The one thing I can remember him saying he is that I taught him the true value of love and the true value of life. That is not about money or cars or material possessions, but it is about the relationships that you develop and the love that you create. So he then said that he wanted to openly show how much he valued me by asking for my hand in marriage. I was completely shot, but almost everyone in the room were in on the secret! I cried and said yes! It was absolutely amazing because it was very intimate and all of the people that I love and care about able to witness that special day. I Got a Blessing of my Master’s Degree and most importantly seal an official connection with the love of my life.
Christopher add his memories:
That day was very special because she was already receiving her degree. I I knew that I wanted to add to that special day. Beforehand I officially ask her mother and father and pastor for her hand in marriage, so they were in the loop before it happened. A number of people came from out of town to celebrate and that was very special for them to be there. Having our close friends and family witness that engagement was something I knew she would like and something I wanted as well. When selecting the ring I wanted to make sure that the vision I had in my head was executed and manifested. It was a tedious process to try and find the perfect ring but I did. I knew that she wanted something vintage but simple and I was able to get something that fit that perfectly.
The engagement session: Describe your engagement session. Did you have a theme?
The theme of our photo shoot was Come Away With Me. When we first thought about our photo shoot we wanted to make sure that we invited our past present and future. We embodied the past by us being able to go to my grandfather’s house in Soperton, Georgia and take photographs of the house and land that I frequently visited throughout my childhood. I grew there with family and created lasting memories full of love and compassion and values and morals during that time in my life. My fiancé Chris was actually the one to bring up the idea that we should capture our precious moments at a place that meant so much to me. my parents have a farm and I grew up a country girl and the scenery completely lived up to highlighting my deep roots. I also wanted to showcase my own unique individual style in the clothing that I wore, and I feel like it worked out perfectly. The other scene of the photo shoot was starkly different from the farmhouse in Soperton, Georgia but it completely exposed our pre sent and future all in one place an all-in-one concept. We both know that we want traveling to be a part of our future, woven into our lives until the end. Our love and appreciation for different cultures, him being Haitian American and me dedicating my life to international issues propelled us to want to have a photo shoot around travel, with a little bit of classic flair. We were so grateful to be able to show all sides of who we are though our engagement shoot.
What did you do on your first date? We went to dinner at a nice restaurant.
What’s your favorite thing to do as a couple? We enjoy hanging out and spending time with each other. We also have a deep connection to service and giving back, and we not only do that in our professions but also towards each other. There is a level of care and concern that we give to each other that is unmatched. I know that the compassion that we showed towards each other is deeply rooted in God and in the love that we were shown growing up. We know that we are a manifestation of God’s love and because of that we are so honored and blessed to be able to show that for the rest of our lives. We know that we were both designed and created to enhance and fulfill the other person’s purpose.
How has wedding planning been so far?
The theme was pretty laid out at the very beginning. I remember when I was very young my mother was a wedding coordinator and when I was a little girl we planned my wedding, through and through. The theme was “Passport to Heaven”. My actual wedding theme is “Come Away With Me”and it includes a lot of vintage travel pieces, maps, and old luggage. So in all actuality it is not far from that vision I had as a little girl. It definitely fit with my fiance as he sees us growing and learning through our future travels as well so it was perfect. The wedding venue in particular was picked by Christopher. We selected Terminus 330 due to the contemporary but cozy style and also due to the history of the reclaimed railroad station itself.Due to the historical symbolism of Atlanta actually starting by the joining of two railroads at that very location made perfect sense to us, as we are two individuals joining as one to create a new life together.
Tell us what you’re looking forward to most on the wedding day.
We are both definitely looking towards being able to see each other for the first time in all of our glory, being able to look in each other’s eyes as husband and wife for the first time, being able to see friends and family all together under one roof, and being able to share our wedding and our love with so many of our close ones. A number of people are coming from d a couple of them we have not seen in a very long time, so we are looking forward to that.
