Washington DC couple Bridgette and Jamar’s love story began in 2011 on Twitter byway of a mutual friend. They messaged each other for weeks before exchanging numbers, continuing their conversations over the phone for another fews weeks. Finally they could wait no longer and Jamar asked Bridgette on their first date. The breakfast date began with a rocky start as it was July 4th and their restaurant of choice was closed. Not to be deterred, Jamar instead invited Bridgette to his family’s cookout, where she was welcomed by all. As Bridgette says, “At that moment I knew this one would be different…”

Bride & Groom: Bridgette & Jamar
Wedding Date: October 14, 2016
Wedding Location: Southern Oaks Plantation in New Orleans.
Tell us how you met and all about the proposal. We met in June of 2011 on Twitter through a mutual friend, back when it was the new up and coming thing to be on. We messaged for weeks before actually exchanging numbers. After a few weeks of speaking Jamar asked me out on a breakfast date – which was a bust because it was the 4th of July so the restaurant was closed! But Jamar decided he couldn’t go down without a fight and invited me to his family’s annual cookout and I obliged, only to realize it was a mini family reunion! At that moment I knew this one would be different. I met the entire family that day and the rest is history…
For the proposal, we were at home alone, it was intimate and thoughtful. Jamar walked in the bedroom dressed as Adam (the first man) in a fig leaf! I was obviously confused, then he started to quote Genesis 2:21-24, forgetting some of the words he improvised and ended with a proposal!
What do you love most about him? His heart and patience.
What do you love most about her? Her honesty and passion
How did you know she was the one? Because after the first date we spent every day together. I drove 45 minutes to see her every day after work.
What are you looking forward to most as a newlywed couple?
Bride – starting our own family, growing even closer… Groom – finally having her on papers!
