Having first met as classmates in 2005 at Texas Southern University their first date arose from Brittnee’s need to pass her final exam. Quincy made a bet with Brittnee that if she borrowed his notes for the exam and passed, she would have to go on a date with him. Not only did she pass but passed with an A. It was at PF Changs that Quincy collected his reward, a night full of good food, greater conversation and lots of laughs. Brittnee would come to realize that Quincy wasn’t the only person winning that evening…
Their proposal would take place during Christmas, at the end of a family “Secret Santa” gift exchange. When all was thought to be unwrapped, Quincy had one more very special gift to give. Handing a small box to a very surprised Brittnee she opened it to reveal a beautiful ring followed by Quincy asking her to spend the rest of their lives together as husband and wife.

Tell us how you met and all about the proposal. We met at Texas Southern University in 2005. We took a couple of courses together and spoke to each other frequently. During one class I needed Quincy’s notes to pass a final exam. He bet me if I use his notes and pass the exam, then I would have to go on a date with him. I made an A on that exam. After I lost the bet he took me to PF Changs on our first date. We talked and laughed the whole time. I love to eat and drink. Going out to eat is still one of our favorite things to do. We also love watching movies. We like going to the movies but if we can find a good one on Netflix, and have take out, it is the best feeling ever.
Every year Quincy’s family does Secret Santa where they pull names and secretly buy gifts for that one person. This particular year I received everything on my wish list from my Secret Santa. After all the gifts are dispersed you reveal who’s whose Secret Santa. During that revealing Quincy had one more gift to give and it was very unexpected. Of course I’ve always wanted a ring but I’ve never put it on the list. His last gift was a beautiful ring and him asking me to become one with him.
Wedding Style: I had all the guest dress in white while the decor was vibrant fall colors. Also my bridesmaids were able to choose a dress that they felt comfortable in, in shades of ivory and white. I love the forest greenery feel that the hedge wall and manzanita trees gave. The table tops were accented with rustic candles and vases. I wanted an elegant fall inspired wedding and Plants ‘n Petals did just that.
How was your dress shopping experience? Dress shopping was easy, surprisingly. I knew what that I wanted sheer mesh and long sleeves with either lace or beading. I tried on about 6 or 7 dresses and then the last one I chose was a Justin Alexander gown. It was off white with a nude underlay. It was a stand out piece Le Reve Bridal boutique carried and it was perfect for my all white vision.
Bridal Party Gifts: Bridesmaids- a personalized Pandora charm bracelet with their initials. Groomsmen- gold Citizen watches
First Dance Song: “You” by Jessie Powell
What are your fondest wedding memories: While we had many great memories from the night, I have to say one of our favorites was walking down the aisle as husband and wife. The feeling of joy, relief, and thankfulness as you look at the smiling faces cheering for you. It feels royal. We decided to walk down to Beyoncé’s “Love on Top” because that is my favorite artist.
What advice do you have for engaged couples? Bride – This is cliche and you will hear it one thousand times the month before your wedding but enjoy every moment. You will not get that back. The good things, the bad things, and the surprises are all memories that will be laughter later. Oh and definitely get a videographer!
Groom – I encourage the men to get involved in the planning process. Speak up prior to a month before the wedding if you want something specific at the wedding.
