Wife & Husband: Buhle & Sthembiso
When did you get married and where? February 2007 in South Africa.
When and where was your anniversary? 2017 in Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferret, France. It was a destination wedding anniversary with vow renewal.
What was your wedding anniversary vow renewal like? Our wedding anniversary was a magical black and white with a touch gold affair, at a French villa called Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild. It started off with the sunset view of the Mediterranean, followed by a crystal candle lit dinner under the French skies. We ended our special evening on a monogrammed dance floor with a giant disco ball above us.
What do you remember most about your vow renewal? I will never forget Sthembiso’s emotional smile decorated with the most beautiful Mediterranean backdrop as I walked down the aisle. Can we also talk about the glitter painter who surprised our guests by throwing gold glitter on a painting of Sthe and I! The reaction from our guests was priceless.
Was there anything you would have done differently for your vow renewal? Absolutely nothing. Our wedding planners, Cecile and Imene executed our vision with perfection and exceeded our expectations by far. I strongly believe our special day was elevated by God.
What are your favorite things to do as a couple? We love traveling. We enjoy being stuck with each other for days in a foreign country exploring other people’s culture. Traveling inspired us to host our anniversary abroad. We also just discovered that we enjoy working out together. Sthe’s facial expression when he’s lifting weights is hilarious.
Who cooks? I cook of course. I have to admit though, I’m not a huge fan of being stuck in the kitchen, but a girl has got to do what a girl has got to do right. Sthe cooks too. He makes the meanest salads.
When it comes to career, what do both of you do and how do you make time for each other? We are both entrepreneurs. I’m a fashion designer, I’m a photographer, a blogger. They call us Content Creators these days. Sthe owns a publishing company and a construction company. We are big on date nights and we try to keep our weekends free for family time only.
What would you say are the most important elements for a successful marriage? Make love a verb, a doing word. We tend to focus on the external qualities of love and ignore the internal. We treat love as an experience that happened. A moment. A thing. However, love is to do, to feel, to become. It’s a continual movement, its adapting to fit and it’s about making space in your heart for someone else.
How do you keep the spark in your marriage? Lots of Humor and Romance.
What do you love most about him? Sthe has the ability to make you want to be a better person. He makes you want more for yourself in life. His character is infectious.
What does he love most about you? He loves my resilient nature. I never give up without a good fight.
What advice can you give for newlyweds? I think it’s important to remember that a crisis does not mean the marriage is over. Crises are like storms; loud, scary and dangerous, but to get through a storm you have to keep driving. A crisis can be a new beginning. It’s out of pain that great people and marriages are produced.
