It seems somewhat incredible that only 45 years ago (in 1967) the Supreme Court ruled that it was unconstitutional for any state to make interracial marriages illegal. That was in the historical case of Loving v. Virginia, and it marked the beginning and true reality of “true love has no color.” Now, in 2012, research […]
The Friendship Barter
THE FRIENDSHIP BARTER À la the movie, Clueless, he was the Josh to my Cher and in my later years, the “straight” Will to my Grace. I couldn’t have made it through my quarter life crises without our daily emails and endless therapeutic talks at the neighborhood bar. We became friends in a marketing class […]
Love & The Media: Why is the Media so Quick to Report on Marriages in Trouble?
Let me begin this post with a disclaimer: I am not football’s greatest fan – not by a long shot. To be honest, I consider it an incredibly dangerous sport, especially in light of the evidence that continues to emerge on its long-term effects on head and brain damage. I only watch it when I have to (read: when […]
The Four “C’s” of Relationships
Eddie Murphy is on the fast track. Not so much for demand of his legendary comedic prowess, but because of his infamous two-week marriage to Tracey Edmonds (trumped by Robin Givens & Svetozar Marinkovic’s 24-hour marriage). Clearly nuptial remorse to the nth degree. So exactly why do couples choose to jump ship before they […]

Engagement Announcement: A Legal Love Affair!
Joshua and I met in the basement of our law school building. The basement was a popular study area and many of us law students spend sleepless hours there relying religiously on caffeine and take-out food. Joshua and I would share stolen glances for months. Finally, I received the sweetest email from him inviting me out. I initially had cold feet due to a series of failed relationships and ending up broken hearted. At the last minute, I cancelled the date. However, he held no grudges and we began a comfortable friendship, texting and chatting from time to time.
One late night I fell ill. Being new to the area (I had moved there for law school), I had no one to turn to. Against my better judgment I sent a desperate message to Josh seeking a shoulder to lean on. He immediately asked for my address, showed up at my apartment door and drove me around town (at midnight!) to find an open pharmacy. After a few failed attempts he found one still open in the wee hours of the night and ran in to find something to make me feel better. He dropped me off afterwards and was the perfect gentleman, checking on me over the next few days to ensure I was ok.
I was instantly enamored with this man who sacrificed his night of studying to drive me around town. He never asked to come in and after the incident would simply wave at me around school. He was never aggressive or pushy and maintained a respectful distance from me. I thought of him often and finally decided that if I truly found my fairy-tale knight in shining armour, I wanted to get him first and keep him forever! Chivalry is not dead ladies! Since then we have been inseperable and I am madly in love!
Love & The Media: On Heidi and Seal, Kobe & Vanessa Bryant – Love in the Public Eye
With the constant celebrity adoration that is prevalent in today’s culture, I sometimes wonder why we have such a glamorized view of the celebrity lifestyle. We see the red carpet appearances, lavish vacations, and extremely full bank accounts – and immediately conclude that theirs is the “perfect” life? After all, who doesn’t want to that rich, […]

Single In The City: Flying High With Sean
Flying High with Sean Sean breezed through New York for a day, en route to Frankfurt. It was the most amazing and down-to-earth 24 hours, I could ever have hoped for. I arrived at JFK airport around 11a.m. to greet him, even after he insisted he’d meet me in the City. I wanted to make […]
