Tell us how you met and all about the proposal. We met through a mutual friend who happens to be my cousin in 2012. Our dynamic was incredible within the first few hours of talking. We became official in May of 2013 and John proposed in May of 2016.
The proposal: Every year post the home-going of my mom, I participate in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure 5K, to honor her life. May of 2016 was the first time John ran with me. At the completion of the race, many people were brought to a large stage to acknowledge their place, donation winnings, and personal stories. When I was called to the stage, I assumed that I was going to share my mom’s story. Little did I know, after stating how I was there celebrating my mother’s life, John tapped me on the shoulder. He professed his love, got down on one knee, and asked me to marry him in front of thousands of people! It was even on the news!
What was wedding shopping like for you? I enjoyed the process of shopping for a wedding dress! My dress was beautiful and classic.
Bridesmaids/Groomsmen gifts: The bridesmaids received robes and tote bags. The groomsmen received laser engraved personalized footballs.
Favorite item on the menu: Shrimp and grits served in stemless martini glasses
First dance song: “Beautiful Surprise” by India Arie
What is your best memory from your wedding?
My best memory was us locking eyes while I was walking down the aisle, seeing John tear up during that time, and John’s reaction to my bridal jumpsuit wardrobe change during the reception. I also loved how intimate, engaging, and fun our reception was. It was a night that I wish never ended!
