Tiana and Kyle celebrated their love (and growing family) with a charming summer wedding in Atlanta, Georgia!
Tiana and Kyle first met at Florida A&M University in their summer calculus course. At first, they didn’t think much of each other, but as time went on they began bumping into one another more and more and began to take notice. One day Kyle decided to send Tiana a friend request on FaceBook and they’ve been talking ever since.
Kyle planned a sweet and romantic proposal that completely took Tiana by surprise.
Her eyes lit up and got bigger than normal. I got down on one knee trembling with fright and happiness. I barely got the words out before I started choking up but she understood and said yes then immediately broke down in tears and a praise dance.

How did you meet?
I met Kyle at Florida A&M University in the Summer of 2012 in Calculus class. I didn’t notice him at first except that he always sat behind me and he had cornrows and wore Aeropostle T-shirts. One day as I was walking into class, I saw a guy sitting at the desk Kyle usually sat at with a fresh new fade haircut. Long and behold, IT WAS KYLE!!! As I walked to my seat, I smiled and said to him, “I like your hair.” He cracked a smile back and said, “Thank you.” We were in the same study group but never talked after our first interaction.
After summer school ended, I didn’t see him again until one day when I was walking through “The Set” with my mentees during the Fall semester. He shouted out a “hey!” and I turned around and gave him a friendly hug and then he was gone again. It was nice seeing a somewhat familiar face.
It wasn’t until one random night I just so happened to be outside talking to my neighbor in College Club that my classmate/Chemistry buddy Antonio pulled up in his car. Guess who got out on the passenger’s side? YES! KYLE! I looked a complete hot mess however a part of me thinks he didn’t care. They were going to the movies but had to pick up my neighbor who was dating Antonio at the time and Antonio just so happened to be Kyle’s roommate. SMALL WORLD. As I said hey I walked over to give him a hug, but this time was different. I’ve never known a man just to be drenched in cologne, but he smelled so good. Then he was gone, AGAIN.
Finally, as I was doing my homework in my apartment and on FaceBook, Kyle sent me a friend request, I thought it was weird because at the time we didn’t have any mutual friends. I accepted and he quickly sent me a direct message.
Tell us about the proposal
Kyle: I needed to find a way to get Tiana all dressed up, get her nails done, and her hair styled. I told Tiana that we were going to take photos for my birthday. We drove down to National Harbor where I told her the photos were going to be taken. As we got out of the car, the cold icy air immediately hit our faces and made us shiver. We walked over to a restaurant nearby where I told her we were meeting the photographer. I staged a meet-up with a friend who would be the actual photographer and made it seem like it would be a random meet-up.
Then, I asked her to take a photo of us and presented Tiana with a gift bag full of Linder truffles, a gift card, and a ring box. I made her dig deep in the bag and she pulled out a small box. Her eyes lit up and got bigger than normal. I got down on one knee trembling with fright and happiness. I barely got the words out before I started choking up, but she understood and said yes then immediately broke down in tears and a praise dance.
Wedding Style
The groom wore a Menswearhouse White tux, black dress slacks, Calvin Klein shoes, Joseph Abode white shirt, and a Bow tie. The bride wore an Ese Azenabor 2 in 1 dress with a 10-foot detachable train and Badgley Mischka shoes.
What was the wedding shopping experience like for you?
Groom- Stressful. I wanted to make sure I complimented Tiana’s swag. I knew she was going to be fly so I needed to be as well!
Bride- Indecisive. Before the pandemic, I wanted a very lavish design but did not know where to look. Two years later, I researched a shop in Tysons Corner Virginia and found the designer that complimented my big personality.
Did you incorporate any culture into your wedding?
Groom: Our wedding had a blend of two different cultures. Tiana is from the South and I’m from St. Thomas, USVI, and St. Kitts. We made sure there was a mixture of today’s Hip Hop and R&B along with Caribbean songs played all throughout the wedding as well as southern and Caribbean food.
What is your best memory from your wedding?
The dance performance from the bride/gender reveal, as well as The Bride and Groom Entrance.
What is the best advice you can give to engaged couples?
Communicate often, honesty, don’t take each other for granted, and ALWAYS continue dating each other.
