Cheri and Brent’s love story began by coincidence while both were having lunch at the same restaurant. Brent was attending a work lunch, while Cheri was enjoying a meal with her mother while visiting. They were introduced by Cheri’s mother, and the sparks flew. Romance quickly blossomed into love, guiding them down the aisle to becoming husband and wife. Their fondest wedding memories include the exchange of vows, moving “almost everyone to tears.”

Tell us how you met and all about the proposal. Cheri and Brent met at a restaurant while Brent was taking his employees out for lunch and Cheri was having lunch with her mother while visiting. Cheri’s mother introduced the two, and a romance quickly began.
Cheri is a huge NBA fan so Brent planned a surprise proposal in front of family and friends in a private suite during a Washington Wizards Basketball game when her favorite team, The Oklahoma City Thunder were in town.
Describe your wedding style. Modern fairytale! Cheri went to four dress shops before finding her dream dress. She knew exactly what she was looking for so when she slipped into the Pronovias Atelier Edith, she didn’t need to look any further. With her mom, sister and bestie all in agreement, she said YES to the dress! While finding her dream dress, Cheri noticed the bridal shop also had a tailor who made custom suits. Miguel Wilson designed and executed Brent’s Navy Tuxedo perfectly. He even added personal details like the University of Michigan emblem and the groom’s name to the inside lining for a personal touch.
Did you incorporate any culture into your wedding? Both Brent and Cheri wanted to celebrate their African American Heritage by Jumping the Broom.

What is your best memory from your wedding? The best part of the wedding was the exchanging of vows. Brent and Cheri recited traditional vows and also wrote personal vows. The personal vows moved almost everyone to tears. You could hear the church erupt with cheers. It was a really special moment.
What is the best wedding advice you can give to engaged couples? Relax! Weddings can be so stressful, from the budgeting to the planning. I promise no one will notice if the draping doesn’t go all the way around. It’s fine if your flower isn’t in season during your wedding, find another. Get a wedding planner to help you keep all the details straight and enjoy what will undoubtedly be the best day of your life.
