A match made in football fan heaven, Cherry and Michael’s love for their respective NFL teams brought them together one evening at the local club. Though it was at first a friendly rivalry, the colors of their team jerseys faded into the background as their feelings for each other blossomed into romance on Valentine’s Day weekend. They look forward to marrying the love of their lives in the presence of family and friends next Valentine’s Day weekend, and Cherry knows her father will be looking down from heaven, smiling upon their union.

Tell us about how you met and all about the proposal. We met on Feb 6, Super Bowl weekend at The Blue Martini in Raleigh, NC. I had some Panthers gear on and I asked him to dance. He said sure as long as you take off the Carolina Panther’s colors. We danced a few songs, and before I left I was sitting outside cooling off, when he comes out the door. I walked over to him and said, “you must be a Cowboy fan,” he said, “how did you know?” We had a conversation about the Super Bowl, he was telling me the Panthers were going to lose. I was talking smack saying, “no we certainly are not!” Well…we lost the game. So the next weekend was Valentine’s weekend and I came out to the club knowing he would be there to talk more smack about my team’s loss, so when he finally arrived I was sitting at a table and he was at the bar. I waved him over so he could say what he had to say concerning the lost. After the conversation we danced for several songs, and when I was ready to leave he walked me to the car where we exchanged numbers and the rest is history! Our first phone call on the evening of Valentine’s Day was for 3 hrs!
The proposal was us just sitting at home watching television and he asked me, “Cherry, what colors would we wear if we got married?” and the planning began. By the end of the conversation we had everything planned out!
Describe your engagement session. A portion of our theme was based on Football, because that is what brought us together, also we added a special dedication to my father because we exchanged numbers on the 14th and my dad passed on the 14th. We had a wonderful time at our session, we were color coordinated with our outfits. We had fun interacting with each other, laughing and doing crazy stuff. It was an experience we will never forget.
What did you do on your first date? On our first date we met at TGIFriday’s in White Oak for dinner and then attended a movie.
What’s your favorite thing to do as a couple? We enjoy going out to dinner, to the movies, spending time with family and friends, and just sitting home watching television, being silly.
How has wedding planning been so far? The Planning has been going great, the venue has been booked, florist has been booked, and we have designed our cake. Makeup artist reserved, maid of honor has picked her dress, bridesmaids have picked their dresses, wedding rings have been chosen, caterer chosen, photographer reserved and my wedding dress has been chosen.
Tell us what you’re looking forward to most on the wedding day. I am looking forward to marrying the love of my life, and my brothers walking me down the aisle in my Dad’s place. It will be a happy and sad occasion all at the same time, because Dad always would ask me, “Cherry when are you getting married?” I know he will be looking down from Heaven smiling. Also we are looking forward to enjoying our special day with family and friends.
