Who knew that a failed internet connection could be the start of a beautiful love story.
Ava was a college senior at Temple University and had a tight deadline to submit one of her senior assignments. But, much to her frustration, her internet was down. Luckily, her roomate asked Ramón if they could use his intenet connection. When Ava saw Ramón, sparks flew.
Nine years later, Ramón pulled off a surprise proposal with the help of Ava’s best friend. To celebrate their upcoming nuptials, they donned elegant formal attire and decided to have a chic, city engagement session at Philadelphia’s Merchant Exchange Building. Read more about their love story and view their stunning photos taken by the amazing Sheronda Seawright Photography below.

Tell us how you met !
We formally met in Fall 2008 during our senior year at Temple University. My apartment’s internet went out for a few days, and I had an assignment due. One of my roommates knew Ramón and asked if we could come over to use the internet. We arrived to the house—another friend let us in and led us upstairs. Ramón was sitting there, playing Madden. I remember thinking to myself “oh, he’s cute.”
What did you do on your first date?
Our first date was the movies at Avenue North on Temple’s campus. We forgot the name of the movie, but it was more than likely a horror film.
How did he propose?
Fast forward to 2019. I went to what I thought would be just happy hour with a girlfriend of mine. After drinks we went across the street to Rittenhouse Square and my friend insisted I take photos of her near the trees, by the bushes, in the sun. Unbeknownst to me, this was to buy time for Ramón to pop up behind me and ask the big question—in a park, on a perfect day with the ring of my dreams. I cried immediately.
Describe your engagement session. Did you have a theme?
The engagement shoot was so much FUN! Initially, we wanted to do a casual theme with Temple gear and shoot on Temple University’s campus but then I thought—let’s dress up! We rarely do formal events, so this would be perfect. I was worried about the cold (it was a high of 38 degrees that day!) but soon forgot about the weather because I was so excited! Sheronda and Derrick were amazing and made us feel very comfortable and like supermodels—well, at least I felt like one. I’m so-so glad we went with the formal look. The pictures are absolutely amazing.
What’s your favorite thing to do as a couple?
Eat food! We love trying new places around the city. We also enjoy cuddling up on the couch for scary movies or playing video games. I was always a bit of a tomboy growing up, so I still have a gamer side. We enjoy playing PS4 Call of Duty online together. I’ve gotten really good over the years.
How has wedding planning been so far?
We’re taking it one day at a time. We recently began looking at venues, and they are all so beautiful. We’re excited to find/pick the one that we envision for our big day.
Tell us what you’re looking forward to most on the wedding day.
We look forward to finally making a commitment before God and our family and friends—to finally becoming one. But really, sitting down after the night is through and toasting to the beginning of a new journey together.
