Having initially met in the tenth grade and first began dating during the beginning of college, over the years Christina and Nikita have developed a relationship founded in love, trust, and support. The plush, light-hue pink and blue bridal party color themes are complimented by the beautiful topical atmosphere of the Bahamas in their lovely Nassau wedding. Some of Christina’s most memorable moments include the first dances with her husband and father. And for brides and grooms-to-be she offers the advice of “keep it simple! No matter what happens remember that your love for each other is what brought you to this point.”

Tell us how you met and all about the proposal. We met in the 10th grade at Temple Christian High School and started dating the 1st semester of college. Nikita proposed by taking me to New York (my favorite city) for the Memorial Day weekend. He created a scavenger hunt that led to the MOMA Art Gallery (my favorite gallery). My sister who I had not seen in months popped out of no where and I was in so much shock that I did not understand what was going on when I turned around and saw that Nikita was down on one knee. That was when he asked me to marry him.
What was wedding shopping like for you? It was quite easy I already knew the style I wanted and what works for my body type. I always loved the mermaid dress style so when I went into David’s Bridal I collected a few mermaid styles with some ball gown dresses. I tried on about four dresses and the first dress won.
Did you incorporate any culture into your wedding? Yes, we incorporated Junkanoo. Junkanoo is a one of a kind representation of Bahamian music, dance, and costume.
Favorite item on the menu: Conch Chowder
First dance song: “Turning page” by Sleeping at Last
What is your best memory from your wedding? That’s a tough question. I think it was the first dances with my husband and my father. I was quite nervous while doing both but in that moment I felt so secure and overwhelmed with joy.
What is the best wedding advice you can give to engaged couples? Keep it simple! No matter what happens remember that your love for each other is what brought you to this point. It may be stressful at some points but it will all be worth it in the end!
