Kimberly and Jasper’s wedding is full of color, preppy style and tons of laughter. We love how they incorporated a Southern Old Hollywood feel with a New Orleans vibe. Enjoy these lovely photos by one of our favorite photographers, Rhphotoarts. You can also check out this feature wedding over at our partners Ebony.com.
Bride: Kimberly Harris Groom: Jasper Harris Wedding date: May 5, 2012 Location: The Gallery in Houston, TXFirst encounter/proposal…
We met in freshman year in college at Xavier University…we were lab partners & didn’t even like each other at first, but it grew into a friendship. We dated sophomore & junior years, but then broke up…almost 7 years later, Mardi gras happened & our worlds collided again…the rest is history…although we were long distance for almost 2 years until 5 months before our wedding when I moved to DC.
He proposed on a Sunday in April after he came in town to attend a friends wedding. It was during the Japanese festival at the park & even got an umbrella with my name in Japanese on it to remember the day. He knows I like surprises, so he had to come up with the most random time to do it!
Wedding theme…
The theme was focused on a Southern old Hollywood type of feel, but since we were getting married on Cinco De Mayo, we decided to incorporate that in as well. We had a New Orleans engagement party to pay homage to how we met & the reason we got back together, so with the wedding, we had a 2nd line dance at the end-which is a New Orleans tradition (with hand made decorated umbrellas–made by one of our groomsmen–Jason Spriggins). The food was cajun inspired & the dessert room included small desserts such as bourbon balls & Jack Daniels mini pies. We were able to incorporate the Cinco de Mayo part with a box of Mexican Wedding Cake Cookies (all hand made by one of my bridesmaids–Angelle Thomas) as the guests present, as well as with our toasts–you had the option of champagne or a Tequilla shots. New Orleans & Cinco de Mayo?! No way we could go without an open bar & signature drinks!
Best memories…
The most memorable part for me ( & I think it would be both of us) was our first dance…we wanted a party for the reception, so our first dance was a mix & allowed our bridesmaids & groomsmen to be apart of the moment.
You Make Loving You So Easy
He loves…My ambition & drive…always striving for more for the both of us.
She loves…His humor….he kept me from crying during our vows.
