Classic southern estate wedding editorial at the Ogletree Estates in Cornelia, Georgia mixes old southern charm with elegant modern elements.
When thinking about planning a wedding (especially in the South), many couples might think you have to choose between embracing “old southern charm” versus diving into the “new and modern” trends of wedding planning. But who says you have to choose?
According to wedding planner and designer, Ashlie Muller Celebrations, “you can have the best of both worlds.” And her classic southern estate wedding editorial proves that you absolutely can!
Set against the traditional backdrop of the Ogletree Estates, Ashlie and her team used a classic black and white color scheme mixed with elegant and modern décor to create a perfect harmony of vintage and modern details.

Inspiration…
Ashlie was inspired by the “old-world charm” of the past and modern elegance.
She explains, “I wanted to design a wedding that included elements that were classic and timeless, but at the same time bring modern day elements into the overall look and feel.”
Incorporating vintage details with modern ones, like a black and white color palette and an old-school car, creates a wedding experience that’s both classic and elegant.
“It’s almost like having the best of both worlds,” she says. “It’s far from vintage, but it’s not entirely modern day either.”
Invitations…
For Ashlie, every detail matters in this shoot – including the invitations!
For instance, “Using a wax seal stamp and beautiful calligraphy throughout [gives] a nod to the past, while the sleek way [they were] wrapped up in vellum paper, includes the modern present.”
The bride…
The dress…
Ashlie notes that fit and flare gowns are normally the go-to-dress for brides creating a classy and elegant wedding.
However, in her vision, “we wanted to show that a ball gown could look just as good.” So, they selected “an Allure Bridals ball gown, accented with diamond earrings and a cathedral veil.”
The groom embodied a more classic style by wearing a black and white tuxedo, bow tie, and shined shoes.

The venue…
Ashlie and her team strategically chose the ultra-traditional Ogletree Estates to set the scene for their vintage-meets-modern shoot.
She explains, “Built in 1908, with beautiful and original architecture on the outside and inside… these details are what mattered in keeping with the old-world charm of the past.”
To bring more modern elements into their design, they added contrasting details, like bright white décor, unusual textures, and uncommon blooms.
For instance, in their floral design “…a combination of dried lunaria, dried ruscus and angelica, sarracenia, white cymbidium orchids, white anthurium, white peonies, and white carnations with leagnus for greenery…” brings a special touch to their venue.
The ceremony…
The outdoor ceremony space also gave them ample room to play with their design.
Nestled beneath the branches of an ancient tree, Ashlie recalls: “the ceremony location is beautiful and probably has been there for many years, which helps in bringing in an element of the past [into] the design.”
To contrast that, a gorgeous chandelier hangs from the branches above “with florals and greenery climbing up the trunk” to add a modern touch to the historic landscape.
Mr. & Mrs….
The reception…
Tablescape design…
Their tablescape designs and place settings “… reflect the modern style” of their vision.
“With sleek plates and silverware, which gives the impression of a multiple course meal, each place setting had a guests’ name written in calligraphy on an acrylic square.”
The sweet details…
Their modern three-layered black and white cake is not only delicious but continues to play with textures.
“The entire cake is covered with white fondant,” Ashlie explains. “Then additional details were added by hand. The bottom tier is a handmade “marble” look using edible watercolor with accents of black/grey icing to add texture and depth to the cake. The middle tier has a hand-painted monogram, which was taken from the font [of] the invitation suite, with black fondant accents. The top tier is just plain enough to highlight the acrylic topper with just a small band of black fondant at the bottom.”
Vintage details…
“To tie everything together, a vintage car had to be included in this shoot. [But] not just any car. So, we included a white 1961 Rolls Royce Austin Princess.”
Videography…
The entire shoot was capture on digital and film cameras. A short film from the shoot shows the details and movement of each vignette.
